Two coats in my opinion is best

Ben's Ultra 500 line is good and still better than other manufacturers (again IMO)
Ultra is more wallet friendly for B&M

My son built a basement gym and went with wall to wall horse stall mat. It turned out kind of nice and the stuff is indestructible. There was a strong rubber smell that eventually dissipated. I wouldn't call it soft and plush, but you can drop weights on it without a mark.

I had those in my basement and they're junk. The best soft pads I've seen are at the ones at restaurant supply places. Cushy and durable for cooks that have to stand on hard floors all day.

So I'm going to poke the bear cause I know ceiling painting isn't fun

If you have a water stain on your unpainted ceiling texture (popcorn AKA snow tex, orange peel or knock down) your new home is likely orange peel

Take a spray bottle mix 50/50 bleach/water lightly spray stain (it may take a few spray times). Don't over apply mixture on the texture just dampen

In most cases it will remove the water stain without painting

Painting popcorn ceilings for the first time by hand or by spray you need to be careful

The texture is water based so if you use water based paint and over work or spray to heavy

It's like mixing the texture up from powered stage again

The more contact/paint applied on the texture more likely it will start releasing from the drywall

I'll use a split foam roller and oil based paint when the ceiling hasn't been painted before if I choose not to spray (occupied home)

No matter what, if you paint a popcorn ceiling by hand YUP that sh!t is messy

I do spray ceilings only if I can cover surfaces to protect from overspray/paint dust (dryfall)

    LOOK AT YOU

That paint looks great. You may want to leave door open a crack to allow moisture to escape

Some kind of gym mat I would think would help (my knees aren't great, should have worn my knee pads more when working)

I had the HVAC fan on (without A/C cool enough to not need it) and there's nearly an inch gap under the door pretty good "positive pressure" in there lots of flow out from under the door plus I won't be in there for a few days at least to do anything more.

I wanted it to dry real slow as I put the last coat on pretty thick and didn't want it to peel.

But I'll keep the door open if you think that's better.

Pretty spooky in there with the lights off. :anonymous:

Spraying ceilings is not fun and hard on the neck

    Plus like you said APITA

Most important thing cover everything when spraying

Overspray and dust gets into places you wouldn't expect

Water stain is in her town house. Didn’t really look at the new house but it seems more like the orange peel then popcorn from pictures. We don’t have our final walk through for a couple of more weeks. I don’t think we will need to paint the ceilings in the new house. Does the orange peel texture hold up better than the popcorn? If not at some point I might just remove it all.

Orange peel is typically just thinned drywall mud splattered on the surface. Short of a leak is should last forever, and if you want to paint is no big deal.

Perfect. It’ll paint over a lot better than freaking popcorn

Have you thought about the rubber tiles that are designed for a garage floor? Not sure if they are the same as ones previously mentioned or not. I wonder if they would have enough cushion for a person (as opposed to a car.)

I'm about to do some flooring in part of my basement, and have been considering these. I'd like to see what you end up with.

Yeah I've looked at the interlocking sections and home gym floor solution type stuff a bit, most seem to be more for absorbing drop weights shock rather than knee cushion and I suspect are too high a durometer my bigger worry with them is either corners peeling or drink spills getting between the cracks.

A local flooring shop had a setup I'm considering of a closed cell neoprene foam 1/4" as underlayment then recommend a tight low nap carpet.

For now just going to go with painted black floor and a fatigue mat in my VR area till I decide or find something I really like.

I've been looking at these: https://www.rubberflooringinc.com/interlocking-tile/38-sport-lock-tiles.html

They are kind of in between - not too hard.

Those aren't for heavy weights, those are cushiony.

    Highlights
    • New and improved recycled rubber top surface and EVA foam backing.
    • Provides excellent cushioning and anti slip protection.
    • Detachable edge pieces allow each tile to be either a center, corner, or border tile.
    • Sound absorbent and shock resistant.
    • Not recommended for use in areas where heavy free weights and weight equipment will be used.
