Sold my cap, can't find a used one for a decent price. Going to bite the bullet and go new.

Been looking at a Leer 100XR.

    100XR Cap $ 2,516.00
    Headliner 169.00
    Front Slider 169.00

    Sub Total $ 2,854.00
    Tax 171.24

    Installed $ 3,025.24

Are there any options or there better for the price?

Shop around price looks high, varies dealer to dealer a lot. I bought my cap in 2020 it was ordered pre-pandemic and installed just when things were getting weird. I saved nearly $1000 driving a couple hours. I paid around $2600 for ARE CX sportsman windoors, fold down window, dome light, tracks and Yakima towers and aero bars with locks, carpeted. That same same package at several dealers was $3500-$3800. Install was great and the place had great reviews (Browns truck service I think near Decatur, IL).

That’s the same shell I’ve got. Bought mine 4 years ago when i got the truck. Gave $3200 & change with the leer locker. Then was told the locker couldn’t be put in a short bed shell. Refunded the cost of the locker, it wound up $2300+.

I called around here in Texas got a broad quote of prices on the 100XR. Cheapest I found was a guy 3 hours away from me.

    Windoors with sliders
    Removeable Front window
    Roof Rack
    Carpet

I think it was like 3500 installed. Everyone else I called wanted over 4k or next best like 3600 plus tax and install. Also 16 week lead time for my specific color and options.

Why fibreglass canopies are garbage? I had one for many years and it worked fantastic.

Got it for free by the way, just had to install a new rear window and locks.

because fiberglass leaks, cracks, breaks, delaminates and looks ugly IMO. In addition, fiberglass shells unless reinforced with aluminum, can’t support the same loads as a steel canopy like the RLD and RSI. Ymmv

Hm interesting. My free shitty old canopy did not leak whatsoever, even the sliding windows were perfectly fine. I do see how an aluminum one is better to carry heavier loads.

Luckily I have no need for a canopy at the moment. IMO all canopies look ugly, no offence to anyone.

I have a 100XQ on my short bed Tacoma. Took about 3 visits to get the water intrusion to a minimum. Paid about $3,200 I believe installed.

If I could do it again, I would go with the RSI cap above my post. They look amazing.

that seems to be the norm! My RLD has a gutter system on the outside lower edge, and has been completely water/air tight since day one. The RLD/RSI canopies are very comparable in price to the high end fiberglass shells, so not sure why anyone would want fiberglass over steel.

I’d really like an RSI, they aren’t that much more expensive in AK than the Fiberglass options. Just not ready to part with $3.6-$4.3k for a cap:eek:

Fibreglass canopies are not garbage. We have a fleet of trucks with both fibreglass and aluminum canopies. The fibreglass ones are superior for durability. Aluminum ones leak and get bent all to hell. The paint peels off them and the locks, hinges, and latches freeze solid in the winter. Anything inside gets soaked from condensation and they rattle.

Basic aluminum canopies are hot garbage. Fibreglass FTMFW.

that’s a relief! I would probably take fiberglass over aluminum as well…good thing no one is recommending aluminum canopies.

FWIW, when I bought my own canopy for my personal truck, I bought a fibreglass one. I had deep discounts on either through our company, but that was my choice.

The fiberglass caps are pretty nice, can have an OEM look. I have had a few over the years, if taken care of and not abused last as long as I want the truck, 10 years.

    Canada, so fibre, not fiber.

Video included for humour and because I like old-timey things.

    Chinese stainless is junk.
