AC Vent Trim Rings

Looking at various AC Vent Trim Rings, I see that there are a few choices. Some are just glued on and go over the existing rings, other are replacements.

Who has what and where did you buy them?

I'm leaning towards flat black, but might end up with Cement to match my truck.

Are the black rings flat or glossy? I'm guessing that the Cement rings match the exterior paint in terms of gloss.

 

X3 for meso. It’s a little more work, but very much worth it.
Can’t vouch for the colors matching or anything but I can’t imagine they are glossy at all. I’m pretty sure all the colors are flat or matte. Also meso just restocked black vent rings this week. Not sure if they’re still in stock

 

They were as of a few minutes ago. The video showing how to install them is excellent. I took the vent on the driver's side of the radio surround out yesterday when I was replacing the gun metal trim with the flat black set. I needed to do that so I could accurately drill a new hole for the DSM that was already installed. The installation of the vent rings is pretty easy.

MESO just restocked a couple days ago, they go quick though. Just installed mine last weekend, super easy, takes maybe 20 minutes tops. They are flat like the rest of the interior. I got MGM rather than black, as it fit the secondary colors on my interior perfect.

the MESO ones are the way to go as they are straight chrome replacements, not stick ons like the others, looks OEM

 

I'm sold. I think I'll go with the Cement just because.

 

They're flat/matte. Not glossy. The fit on them is better than most options. Also just the right account of color. Not too thick, not too thin.

 

Meso should give you guys a commission!

Thank you guys so much! I really appreciate the heads up about Meso restocking. I have been trying to get the black vent rings for over a year and have signed up for their list to get an email multiple times and never once received an email. Finally was able to just order a pair to complete my full interior chrome delete.

OP don’t waste your time with other vent rings, my buddy has Meso and they look quality. I couldn’t get them and went with AJT and their stick on and they look like they’re stick on, not a good look at all.

 

I ordered a set in Cement.

 

I was really hoping AJT would suffice for some of my chrome delete needs, but the start button ring is too thin and just irritates me... it’ll have to do until a meso restock though

 

These are my MESO rings. Ordered them in black, and then painted them with Dupli-Color Toyota Magnetic Gray Metallic. This matches the steel-gray accents on the rest of the dash. A nicer contrast than having just black.

That actually looks great for a nice OEM look. That might be the second best option, I’ve just never had great luck painting interior plastics and them lasting more than 3 years or smelling from the intense Florida sun and heat.

 

I would recommend stripping the chrome before painting. (Paint adheres very poorly to the chromed surface.) This can be easily done by soaking the parts in a strong bleach bath. It's easy, but it takes patience -- figure on at least a 2-week soak.
I did this for the cup holder surround, which is visible in my picture, earlier in this thread. Turned out rather well, I think.
