What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Yeah I took out my rear seats but left the plastics bins back there and I'm going to be taking them out and building a platform for back there. So this is a must to keep the sound down I'm thinking.

 

If you get the chance, I installed a HDPE board back there, I think 1/8" - just enough to give a semi-rigid surface for the noise of the rear cab vent to reflect - it works very well for that purpose. Ah. Sounds like I need to do the floor then. Any idea how long that takes? Feel like I can get it knocked out in a day if I start in the morning. I do mostly highway driving and there is a lot of highway noise that makes it way into the cab and I have to have the volume on max even with my aftermarket head unit /speaker setup to listen to music and podcasts. (Maybe not completely maxed out volume, but close enough). So I’m just trying to dial back the highway noise a bit. I did sound deadening and the foam in all four doors.

 

Oil change (with some extra gunk cleanup), new pcv valve, new plugs.

 

Installed new front mud flaps after one of the OEM got caught on a vine and ripped right off the truck. Replaced the OEM with Husky's and they went on really easy. Look pretty much like the OEM ones.


Installed all new push clips too. I was missing a few here and there as well, so I replaced about 10 of them in total.



Next up is to get two new keys cut and program the 'puter to make them work. Just received the dot key blanks and the OBD2 programmer this morning.

 

Funny you said this. I have a Tacoma and an Escape that I switch up driving frequently. The road noise difference is amazing. I don't use the truck too much, maybe 3k-4k miles max annually on each vehicle, so not sweating the noise. Driving in heavy rain it is an extreme difference in the 2 vehicles. I figure the truck noise is fine since it is a truck. We actually have 2 Tacomas and 3 Escapes, not to mention the luxury Buick, all having low miles, and the 2 newer Escapes are the quietest of all of them. Go figure.

 

Nice. Go big or go home. If you're looking for a fan club to start you're not going to find someone on TW to start it for you, just an FYI from one of the go big or get the **** out guys.

You'll need 33's, 2-2.5" lift, TRD stickers and wheels, rtt, Raptor grille lights, a useless and blinding fake hood scoop, and about $8k in shocks to cruise the mall for that fan club to be started for you.

And don't ever ever mention a body lift again.

 

Installed the Pioneer DMH-2660NEX, very happy so far.

Finally got around to swapping out the Bilsteins. They were leaking more oil than a Labrador’s turd cutter after getting into the fridge and eating the Walmart 5 gallon tub of potato salad.

 

Threw some rxt’s on 2nd setting in there, gonna finish up tmrw

Made my last payment. To mark the occasion I also ordered a transmission skid and transfer skid.

 

After searching for over a year (off and on) since buying my truck, I finally got me a long box topper in silver streak mica! Plus it came with a sweet drawer system for the bed. Ironically it popped up in my little hometown! It’s a Century brand and I’m unsure of the model. Any ideas? Unfortunately it doesn’t have sliding front glass but it does have dual “opening” windows on the sides. I might have to swap one out for a slider though cause I want some ventilation for the dogs on the passenger side.

That's similar to what Dad had put on the 2009. So I have the brochure for the Century cap. centurycaps.com photos attached. Looks like you have the accessory Side screen "Win-Doors" with latches and piston assist. Without seeing the rear door, it's hard to tell whether you have the Royal or Ultra Series. He had the Ultra series installed with the Outdoorsmen package (plus rough-cut 2x6s and plywood for a sleeping/storage/hauling platform). Ventilation for Lady. the border collie was the side windows as the Duluth Trading cover over the rear seats was her spot, except when the front was unoccupied and her nose could press on those side windows. Yeah, Jase, it took some Norwegian steam (elbow grease) to clean the windows, and thanks for the reminder that I still need to clean that Duluth Trading cover as I just rolled it up and stashed it while I vacuumed out the interior. i tried Mother’s and it didn’t work. I’ve had good luck spraying a ceramic/silicon spray on my plastics, but the sun hear has really destroyed them.

 

Me too, mines almost identical.

 

Which Bilsteins were you running?

 

After sitting for a six month deployment my baby started right up. So today I have driven my second gen. It should be noted someone was supposed to start up my truck while I was gone but they didn’t.
