MT Accumulator Delete Mod (ADM) and BS Thread

My understanding is that removing the acc, milling, and replacing is the easiest and cheapest route, and also ensures the connects are solid.
Sending out for a milled acc is what, $130(?), and also would ensure solid factory connections.
The bypass line is inexpensive, risks improper non-factory connections, but is the most cost effective risk to take.

 

All methods are equivalent. I like the dremel mod because it is quick with no guess work. Hit it, clean it, and install it.

Milling is a great option if you don't want to use a dremel.

 

I agree, but note that when @Trident904 was making this hard line kits, he sourced a particular flare fitting for the slave connection. The down side there was that it was an 11mm hex. Although, that extra meat on it allowed folks to use an 11mm box end wrench, gently.

So is the area circled in red where the accumulator is located? Its covered up by a heat shield and I can't really see much behind it.

I have been a long time lurker. Just made an account to say, I did this mod today (dremel method)

Thoughts.

1. you absolutely do need a line wrench and ratchet wrenches, there is a TINY amount of space to work with
2. bleeding a clutch is not that scary
3. holy cows, what an improvement, before this mod, I was questioning if I even knew how to drive a manual anymore! Shifts are crazy buttery smooth now.

I did the accumulator delete today after work today.....wow what a difference! I have to say, what the hell was Toyota thinking by putting that crap on these trucks?! It shifts so smooth now! I used the Techna-Fit Stainless Steel Clutch Line.

 

I have one of these sitting in my garage waiting for me to find the time. Any issues using the Techna-Fit stainless line?

 

I think the benefit is no one would know the difference if they looked up and saw the accumulator still there but…. Who the fuck is gonna be looking there and know what the part looks like, a Toyota tech?

The Techna-Fit line works great. It is a little difficult getting tools to fit in that tight of an area. Flex-head line wrenches worked really well. The clutch was easy to bleed out also. The whole job only took me about an hour.

Working on mine now. A few things to consider:
- the upper front bolt of the acc is a PITA and is better removed if you yank the cat support bracket before to attempt to remove the acc
- you'll want to unbolt whatever wiring harness is to the rear for added room.
- there's going to be about 4oz of fluid coming out of the acc when you unscrew the tubing, didn't expect that
- you'll need to be conservative with the small, $4 bottle of Dot3, esp if you're doing the solo bottle method to bleed. If you bought the 32oz bottle, no worries.
- I bought the prefab 12" brake line. All parts, fluid, and even pliers to bend the tube cost me $25 at Autozone

I'll let y'all know if I f'd it up tomorrow when I test.

Clutch is much more responsive. No more missed or sloppy engagement. This 2019 is new to me and I recently drove an old Mazda manual, the clutch now feels like that tight, broken-in Mazda. More enjoyable to drive.
The pedal seems a little softer but consistent. I did the one-man bleed with a hose into a bottle. So I don't k or if I missed a bubble or two or that's just the new feel. I reckon having a smoother pathway for the fluid has something to do with it also.
Overall took me less than 2hrs, which included removing the stripped upper acc bolt for way too long.

 

I did the one man bleed also. At first it felt like empty and it easily sunk to the floor. But like @tonered said, after a couple hundred pumps it’ll come back.

 

Yeah. Bleeding by yourself can be hazardous. If most all of the air is out, the pedal will firm up after some driving.

 

Yeah, I noticed it feeling more normal after I drove it around this morning.
