    Noob question:

I understand the horizontal line not being straight but what is the significance?

    Composition,

Its more pleasing to the eye if the horizon line is straight. AND when you look at the horizon is it slightly crooked?

As far as "Rules of Composition" goes, The horizon should always be straight unless its dramatically crooked and you ment for the photo to be that way. but in that situation the landscape usually isnt the main focus of the photo. BUT in landscape photography you dont want the photo to be crooked.

BTW, the rule of thirds says that your subject should lie somewhere on intersection of the vertical and horizontal lines (Panda's image). So tilting down just a tad and panning a little left would give you a little more of the city in the foreground and qualify as the rule of thirds. But the sky with the clouds is a compelling subject too so breaking the rule is more desirable in this case.

Lastly, some will tell you to use a bubble level to make the picture level. A level only makes the camera level. If you want the horizon to be straight (and you generally want that), you need to use the viewfinder's borders or if you can, turn on a grid. The point is more to look at the horizon and without take your eyes off the subject, level the image. You can use things in the field of view as well.

Sports shots are very often not level too (out by a little bit). There's nothing wrong with something being off axis but when it's a little out of level it's almost always noticeable (in a bad way).

I forgot to say that it's also a nice picture too.

I see what your saying there. It all makes sense.

With the sports your talking about I really see what your saying, I see a lot of basketball action shots that are slightly off, but it doesnt take much to notice it!

Virtual horizon FTW! If you're taking a horizon pic, keep it in the middle of the picture.

Finally got my new lens in....Tamron 75-300. Took some shots with it today. Didn't really need this lens for these shots but I wanted to try the lens out and see how sharp it was.

    What you guys think?

I would look at getting a small Samsung screen.

My computer guy has his plugged into a Samsung and talk about some wicked graphics. My .02.

Not the same as the Apple Cinema Display. Apple's is a 27", LED backlit, and has a much higher resolution. $400 is kind of pricey for just 1080 LCD. You can do better with the Samsung LED 23" from Best Buy.

Alright guys, I've been searching around and reading reviews about Nikon and Canon. Who has a T2i and how do you like it? I've had a few Canon's before, a digital rebel and a 35mm SLR as well...I'm sure the controls and menu's haven't changed much in the past few years?
