the frame rails get seriously out of place without anything back there so i would suggest that you bolt your bumper back on to ensure the frame rails are straight before you box it or put in a new crossmember

Okay cleared that by recalibrating the vsc. Then I got a check engine light and a trac light on. Wtf. All 4 codes are lean codes.

Are they for both banks? Did you accidentally knock a vacuum line off or something

Yeah and a random misfire code. I did put a oil separator canister in. Must be that. I will double check the lines.

edit: I feel like an idiot. Haha I had the breather hose on the oil canister and forgot to change it to the gasket cap. That was definitely it.

Yeah me too. It was idling like dog shit. And my fuel trims were bouncing around everywhere. They look better now.

Pretty crazy how much these frames twist and flex. When I set up my bump stops up front I took about 3/4” of uptravel out of it. Thought for sure that would be sufficient to keep away from metal on metal at the upper joint.

Long story short, when I set the weight of the truck down on the bumps there is enough twist that its right back to metal on metal.

This pretty much explains why @kasnerd made his upper control arm contact the inner fender.

My plan is to build a removable cross brace between the shock towers and bypass mounts. Hopefully it’s enough to keep this from happening.

Just something to be super mindful of when you’re setting things up.

    Mods? Yes, oh yes..
Yea, Tacomas are contortionists by design. Harry added bumps in the front and that's been VERY good at keeping things in place, but I miss the plusher ride from before. Compromises were made. Go fast is more fun.

Part of me wonders if maybe some harshness is coming from the flex too. Have Harry build you a cross brace and see what happens. When I have my inners off again I fully intend to get an actual number for just how much the frame rails twist in.

It’s not going to do much other than push the problem somewhere else. I know I sound like a broken record but it you want to beat on your Tacoma then it needs a real cage. Bolting long travel suspension to a stock frame and expecting it to hold up to real abuse is kinda foolish.

And @kasnerd truck is more harsh because I cranked the free bleeds all the way in and put 250psi in the bumps

No doubt a cage solves all of it. That’s part of the reason I’m trying to lay a good foundation for one now. The deeper I dive into this truck the more issues I see. But I feel like you’re always chasing your tail no matter what you do.

I found out that I’m rubbing the little front ear on the inner fenders yesterday. I’m going to have to trim this piece off and find another way to mount my headlights. It’s rubbing with 315s, only 1 spacer forward on the pivot kit.

Im going to remove the coil and cycle to check clearance this weekend.

Also for those wondering, I tried the Dakota digital box on Friday, I was unable to use the Toyota abs sensors for a signal input. Toyota uses an active 2 wire sensor that has supplied voltage, where the tone ring changes the voltage in the square waveform. Using the sensors directly, didn’t generate an AC signal that I could register to the the Dakota digital box.

I’m going to call them today to see if I can parallel voltage to the sensor and that I won’t smoke anything on their module if doing so.

Okay so with both cams properly setup and maxed out I was right around -1. I decided to bump up the caster and bring the camber to 0. Seems like the max I can get with 884’s. Must have more of a lift in the front than I thought. Probably could hit the 4 caster and -1 camber with stock springs. Unless something’s tweaked but for me that seems like the best I can get. Drives so much better with the additional caster from the pivots though!

edit: I made sure to go in with a full tank of gas so I think when some of that weight goes away after driving they will even out perfectly.

I just touch there slightly on stuff with the wheels turned.... been meaning to trim it off some. All it has done on mine is just wear the paint off so it wont take much.

I rubbed it while going straight lol. I’m sure I can clear part of it and leave it but with bigger tires it will become a problem again.
