I’m not sure if the age of the paint/clear coat matters, but if it does, what are your recs for polish and wax? For consideration, there’s a lot of rain and consequent mud in the PNW, even while on pavement. Thanks y’all!

Appreciate it! I never know if these we’ll known brands are actually good or just hyped up, overshadowing the actual good stuff.

I’m a huge fan of collinite. Last a long time and water and dirt slides off.

Mother’s brand is my favorite for just about everything. Even the back to black keeps the plastic deep black and protected for a couple weeks.

Stay away from everything Armor All.

    Was the same

Cause well it's Turtle Wax, Right?!

I washed, clayed, then used polish and applied the finish wax

And yeah I was very happy

Follow the instruction cause you have to let things dry before moving to next step

Just washed my truck yesterday, still have great water beading and after a shammy nice and shiny

Haven't treated truck since around September

Do you use a powered buffer, or go old school?

    My da
    I've done both

My dad (a retired auto body guy) bought me a power polisher and showed me how to use it

You have to be very careful using a power polisher, speaking from experience cause I burned through the clear by my rear wheel opening

Had to touch it up best I could, he hasn't seen it and I know he'll say "I TOLD YOU" be careful

Yikes! Any advice? I assume to use the weight of the machine only, as best as possible, and not to hover for too long?

I live in the PNW region of Canada. The constant rain and road grime can be frustrating. As soon as I wash and spray wax it's raining again. I do touch-less car washes in between hand washing. However, when I do hand washes I keep it simple. Proper hand washing techniques. 2 Bucket method with grit guards in the bottom of the buckets. Proper wash mitt. PH balanced soap. Chemical Guys Mr. Pink Foaming Car Wash and follow up with a quick wax Meguiar’s D156 Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax. That's it so far. Nothing special. My 2020 looks great once washed. As time goes on I will have to do a more in depth detail.

I like it. Gives that "warm" wax look and lasts for a decent amount of time. For the ease of use and price, it's hard to beat.. Maybe others that have used and/or currently use it can chime in.

Any reason to believe certain waxes would look yellow on a white truck?

    1. Wash with CarPro Eraser
    2. Wash again with CarPro IronX PASTE
    3. Clay bar
    4. Wash with Eraser again.
    5. Polish LIGHTLY with CarPro Essence using the least aggressive pad you can find on a Porter Cable 7424XP. Essence is a ceramic base coat. Like primer is to paint.
    6. Apply CarPro CQuartz CQ.UK 3.0 ceramic coating. Two coats is even better. Don't listen to all the bullshit about only a professional can do ceramic right. You can do this. Have a little faith. It isn't hard. Hell, I did it!
    7. Finally, seal with CarPro Gliss. Trust me, it's going to look AWESOME after step 6, but Gliss puts the brilliance into a different stratosphere. Beads and sheets water ever better than just the ceramic coating alone.
    8. Do your wheels too, and your wheel wells with Poor Boy's wheel sealant. NOTHING will stick or accumulate in your wheel wells.

I've been fucking up the finish on cars with every new "revolutionary" product since the early 70's. I've seen'em come and seen'em go, tried most. Best I thought I'd ever see? For over twenty years I was an Adam's Car Polishes and Zaino Products Z2 and Z5 advocate, still have an obscene amount of both, now unused. The CarPro stuff above is so far beyond those two it ain't even funny. Forget polishes and waxes. Come into the 21st Century. Ceramics. NOTHING will stick to it. I went over a year without having to wash my truck after applying CarPro in April of 2020. I've only washed it once since! A rain is your friend...it washes everything off!

If you've got a white truck, skip the waxes all together. Even with a dark color where waxes can have a better look than the look of a sealant or ceramic.

My recommendation is ceramic, skip waxes and sealants entirely. Carpro is a good recommendation and they've been at this a really long time with tons of positive experiences in ceramic coatings.
