Get a stick so you can control those rpms. I had an 07 Taco auto and mileage sucked!

I honestly do not understand what all the hubub regarding mileage is about. While conditions, fuel quality, tranny, and other variables can have effects, I have already driven my '11 under many conditions and have not seen the horrendous mileage listed here. One thing I don't do is accelerate violently with rare exception. I try to coast to lights and slowing ahead of stops so I can try to make lights when they turn green again, etc.

If you are getting bad mileage, I have little reason to believe the problem is anywhere but between the steering wheel and the seat.

250 miles to one tank yeah its horrible but I still love my truck! 3" lift on 32" tires, intake, and muffler upgrade.

If I change to 18" wheels with 265/60/18 tires, conservative tire pattern, do you guys think I would see an improvement in fuel mileage. I have the 16" s now.

If you're keeping the (relatively) same rolling diameter & resistance, then probably not. Going w/ a lighter setup is probably more likely to save $ than a size change imo.

Btw, the only time I got over 20 was on my x-country trip. Best I could muster was about 22mpg, but it was 99.8% highway.

My understanding as explained by my friend who builds race engines is that if your engine isn't designed for higher octane gas, your wasting your money, doesn't make a difference. You should only need high octane if your running a high compression motor or a supercharger, or turbo.

first... a good 1/3-1/2 of the people on here don't know how to calculate mileage. Some guess at how big their tank is and how much is left when the light comes on calculation they do. "I get 385" What? But plenty do know how and get those numbers.

    Don't speed don't tailgate.

If you're hitting your brakes you're wrong.

Don't top off the tank every time it hits half. Drive it to empty(ish) to get the weight loss gain.

DOn't keep crap in your truck for the same reason.

Short shifting with a heavier pedal is more efficient than winding it out with a light touch.
I seem to get worse mileage if I accelerate too slowly. I kind of get on it from a stop then get to cruising. See the woman drivers and kids all day accelerating slowly until they start tailgating and have to apply brakes. then move over and continue accelerating, always with their foot on the gas and brake. Get there and start following the lay of the land. Accelerate at the top of a hill to get up the next a bit more efficiently. Hills can be 1-2 foot change in elevation not just big rollers. I also take advantage of hills to accelerate a bit more than my cruising speed so I can coast back down.

If you're in a 6 speed, you can drive at 35 mph in 6th gear on a flat or down hill. Shift down to accelerate or head up hills. My wife stays in 3rd until she hits the highway, drives me nuts.

20.5 MPG and I have a shitty 45 min commute one way each day. I do about 65mph for half of it and then stop and go the other half. The lowest i've seen was 18.5. I don't drive like a maniac, but i also don't drive conservatively. :D

OK, so, you are half right. And the other half is split between being a jerk and not understanding the facts.

You say you drive a 2011? Well most people on the forum do not. I know when I got my 2010 (and since then) I received GREAT gas mileage (compared to others)considering (avg 20.5). However, research has told me that Toyota updated the motor for the 2010 (could have been 09) to get better gas mileage than their 05-08/09 counter parts... So naturally, any model from 05-09 is going to get worse mileage than you are with your 2011, given a level playing field.

Not trying to bash your comment, but there are people who do everything short of dump $3K of mods that they will never return investment on, and never see better than 16 mpg...

Otherwise, you are correct, some times the problem exist between the chair and pedal... or however you put it.

I am gonna chime in on this one and say that I am getting on average about 17ish mpg on my 06 Double Cab (if the length of the cab makes a difference). I also have an ARB front bumper, which probably adds to my wind resistance/loss of aerodynamics, and I drive up and down a mountain 60miles round trip for work. Take those factors as you wish. I am light on the peddle going downhill, coast up the next hill with the extra momentum, but once I get to the mountain I am doing 65-70 up it (last 15 miles).

For those people that can't estimate their own mileage their is a good website called fuelly.com which has its own thread here. Other than the fact that it can keep you mileage its pretty awesome at showing you trends. Just keep notes with each fill-up of what gas you use, where you drove, and if you drove like a Granny or a Bat-out-of-hell.

Once you have a few fill-ups you can see what gave you better mileage. I have found that when I use my cruise control (over the hills here, not going up the mountiain) I actually get worse mileage than when I just peddle it the whole way.

I am planning on leveling the front with some Billies and getting a CAI. This website will let me see how each of those effect my mileage. Just take control of your vehicle and your lead foot and see what works...

24.6 mpg average. Could be due to the geezer mod that I installed as it uses the logic that wherever I'm going will be there when I get there.

I drive from Ft. Walton beach to Atlanta every other weekend 345 miles. I do it on 1 tank and the best thing I have found is to use the cruise control anytime possible.
