El Taco Diablo... Mall Crawlin, now with LT for tall curbs

I think I paid $710 for my crank in 2016 new from Toyota. But I was abusing my discount.

 

The build it'll be for will end up being a:

Standard cab
5vzfe
Auto

Not sure if it'll be boosted. I've sent 2 unanswered emails to Ultra4, for clarification on if I can supercharge it for 4600 Class.

The 5vzfe didn't come factory equipped with an SC, but I'm hoping the TRD SC being a factory part will give me a loop hole.

 

I mean it could be ordered from the dealer and purchased new with it - we'll see what they say.

 

If they ever say anything at all.

Wondering if there is a better way to get the answer. I'm following the instructions to submit a tech question, but no answer.



I'm ready to start tearing shit apart. But I'd really like to know what direction it's going to go, so I can start making plans on parts.

It'll make a difference on the crank, the pistons, and more.

 

For racing at constantly higher rpm the forged crank would actually be beneficial. Will a cast crank fail? Un likely at stock rpm. But it will be pretty taxed racing

 

If you're on IG maybe hit up teams that are already running in the series that may know the person that makes the decision and find that person

 

That's what I'm thinking. High (speed) RPM as well as possibly bouncing rev limiter in rocks.

 

Maybe I'll check in to that.

 

Is it required to have measurements of the cylinders etc. factory or is it ok to modify?

 

That is where the forged crank would be beneficial. My buddy endurance races and he’s had a few cast cranks fail (4 cylinder non Toyotas mind you) he started using forged crank cranks and the most recent engine has been running for 20k miles. Mostly 8-16 hr races.

 

Ok... SC or not... you convinced me. Gunna have to pay the piper for a forged crank.

 

I would not hesitate to run a used one if you have it checked over. Cranks on the 3vz are pretty stout.

The 3vz cams do fit too. I had them in my heads. Still haven’t gotten one running with them yet. But maybe this summer.

Hell... it'll be a used block in a (most likely) salvage 95.5 - 97 truck.

95.5 - 97 because they were available with the 5vzfe.

 

Engine will not care if it was out of a different year.

 

Last I saw one in the junkyard it was like ~300 for the whole 3vz. Strip the parts you want off it lol

 

For a race truck I'd get the cheapest 3rz single cab and gut it and haltech that thing with a 5vz out of another truck.

 

I’ve been toying around the idea of a 2AR swap reg cab 5 lug taco for chump car. That little 2.5l is amazing. 260hp with stock parts and a stand alone

 

That's the plan actually. I just bought the motor before I bought the truck.

ToyAuto Mart has a 97 standard cab. I'm going to call them on Monday to see if I can work out a price stripped to body and rolling frame.

 

If it's an ultra 4 vehicle, how much of it has to be stock?
