I know when i get knocked off my bike because of somebody else on the track. I get up hotter than hell. If its a race, rubbing is racing, but a practice there is no need for shit like that.

As for on the road, i dont know how i would react but i would probably not be a happy camper. Im glad this guy was ok

He was watching mirrors, you can see him look down and watch the SUV run right into him. What could he have done? There was no way he was escaping that, since it was less than 4 seconds from the time he started slowing down to when he got ran over. And, if you time how long you can see the SUV coming up in his mirror, it less than 1.5 seconds. NOBODY would have been able to react and get out of the way. If you think you would have done better, I'm sorry, but you are fooling yourself.

Had he stopped sooner or further back, he would have just been hit further back (and had even less time to react.) He was hit by an inattentive driver, stopping with more space to the car in front of him would not have made a difference.

Jesus, that video just gave me an adrenaline rush (not the good kind). I know exactly what that poor bastard was feeling. It looked to me like the he got tossed up in the air, and came down on his feet. It could have easily been bilateral fractured femurs from getting tossed across his handlebars, and a bad spine injury if he had hit the SUV. Probably has whiplash anyway from getting tossed about when the old bat hit him.

shit happens. I TRY never to be between a car and another car. But getting rear ended is almost always unavoidable. Its being sandwiched that can SOMETIMES be avoided. ANd if you hear long screech behind you and are not directly behind a car, you can dart between and hope for the best.

At least he was hit by a small japanese car. They, more than most, are a lot more impact friendly.. I have an xb.. there's no substantial components in the first 2 feet. Just foam and crumple zone. Really takes the energy out of a crash... But his bike sure exploded didn't it?

Moral of the story.. Don't get hit? nah... I've thought long and hard about it.. if anyone has a way to avoid getting rear ended while stopped, let me know. Its the only kind of accident i've been in (watched a guy cruise right into the back of my truck and couldn't do anything but stand on the brake) and i'm a strong advocate of "it takes 2 to have a 2 car collision". BUt man, if you're stopped... you're not a vehicle anymore. What you gunna do?

Every other crash I can come up with a way out of. Not that one. (other than like I said above, which would be rare at best).

I thought you guys with sport bikes bought them because of their sub 4 0-60 time... and of course the reactions to control that. He could have "neo"ed that one.

Senior citizens, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose.

I've sold all my bikes 3 times in my life. Lack of exhilaration and feeling that a father shouldn't be riding.. or doing anything "stupid". My dad died when I was 20 when he ran his bike into a stopping car when he wasn't paying attention. You'd think I'd get it. But they're so awesome.

Eh, my bike's up for sale, maybe I won't fund another with it. Maybe its just late and i'm talkin crazy.

I think I'll still be getting a bike...I've never ridden but I've always been interested. I WILL wear proper safety gear at all times tho. Even tho CO doesn't have a helmet law I believe its a necessity. I also know when to ride and when not to ride..I don't wanna ride at night, nor in the rain. Bikes may be less visible then cars but they are even less visible in the night time then in day time.

I don't know about that. I have highway marking tape all over my paniers. I don't have that on my car. You can't miss me. Its like headlights commin at ya.

What sucks at night is, not being able to scan for dogs or pigs crossing the road, debris up ahead. But slowing down mitigates that.
