I feel like this is the first engine I've seen discoloration on. I could be wrong, but I could say for sure that I didn't see it much if at all up to this point. Did your truck overheat at all? Bad head gasket? It is possible that coolant was leaking into the combustion chamber perhaps, but I'm spitballing possibilities here.

Regardless of what happened, until I know the full story, I don't really have an opinion one way or another in saying whether or not you should proceed with the repairs.

Definitely the first time I've encountered this, but I'm also not an engine builder.

No overheating, no loss of coolant or oil.

Truck ran like a top really, prior to tearing down. With the exception of the misfire of course. It had gotten worse, mainly when starting cold. Under acceleration it didn't misfire. No smoke coming from exhaust.

Thanks for sharing those pics - looks similar, mine just looks a bit more localized. Def appreciate the input so far yall

I'm color deficient in my eyes but pretty sure mine had a greenish hue. The cross hatching looked similar to rheath. I heard our blocks have a coating from the factory. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can confirm? Yours looks like it may need to be further inspected. Discoloration could mean fuel bypassing the combustion, washing out the oil.

By the way your cylinder head combustion chamber looks alot more wet than I'm used to. Probably the bum HG.

There is no coating. They have a spiny type captured liner. THEY CAN BE BORED OUT!!!!!!!!
I am having mine bored to .020" over. I was told by LC Engineering that they can go .040" over. They recommend a good competent machine shop though. I will post pics at I get my block back Tuesday.

Rad! Looking forward to it. Do you have a build list going somewhere? I hope to build a spare motor and bump compression with some flatter top pistons lol. If it weren't for stupid CARB, this dang thing would have been turbo already. But as everyone considers, LS would probably be much easier to get power.

Very possible. Hoping someone here may have experienced this and may be able to chime in on it :)

Yup, I noticed that as well. I didn’t have any issues with my head gasket itself, just the misfire due to the leaking exhaust valve. I believe the additional wetness in comparison to yours is the rich tune I’ve been running

Oh shoot. That's pretty darn rich. I run mine at 12.0. sometimes I see it drop to 11.8 but that's about as low as it goes these days.

    What he said ^^

If it's a whole long block, that's a heck of a deal. Even if you had a mom and pop machine shop replace everything and you assemble it. You could make money if you decided not to keep it. If it's pieces already, I would skip the headache though

if u have a trailer and a engine hoist its easy to transport. its how i got mine. also, mine weighed about 400lbs shipped from Florida to here. it was everything minus the accessories and flywheel.
