My wife has tried her whole life to please her parents, it never happens. I have many stories as to why I didn’t have much respect for them anyway, yesterday was just icing on the cake. We’ve tried to include them in lots of stuff, it’s their loss.

We told our oldest that it was up to him if he wanted to let my wife's parents know when and where his graduation is. As far as I know, he hasn't.

    If he does, fine.
If he doesn't, I completely understand.

my wife dad is that way as well. We invite him to every birthday party or gathering at our house and he never shows up. Lives about 4 minutes away and we haven’t seen him in about a year. I don’t think he has even met his newest grandson that just turned 1. He lived with us for about 6 months when he was down on his luck. Never once helped do anything, just sat there and smoke a drank all day. Luckily her mom and step dad are awesome and try to make time to come visit as often as possible. They live 9 hours away and we see them more.

While I agree, that only gives them justification to complain that they weren't invited.

They will walk around their son with their nose up his hind end. They see them way more than us and he’s in Alabama.

Then that's their problem and there is nothing that says you have to listen or care about their complaints.

Do not give them the power to affect you anymore.

It's ok to talk about it and get it out but know going forward that they are an emotional drag on you and just put a stop to it. My 2 cents.
