Rear facing is impossible (if you want it properly secured, that is). I had a hell of a time getting a front facing one in. I gotta upgrade my kid to a booster seat.

    EDIT: Well, I don't have a 2005. But with 2011 no dice.

You HAVE to put them in the front seat, which is ill advised and/or illegal some places.
THey don't have "l.a.t.c.h." hooks in them do they? I sold my last tacoma because of a new kid. rear facing seats barely fit in anything. I had to move the seats forward in my STS and Tahoe. THey won't fit in shit. Not well, not with someone in the front seat.

My 05 access can has the latch system behind the passenger seat. Works with rear facing and regular car seats.

Sadly it seems like very little room for child seats in back without his little feet touching seatback. Guess i'll have to get a custom RECARO seat for the litlle pudding maker or get an old Subaru Brat and he can ride in the bed.

Rear facing carseats are supposed to be in the middle backseat. Mine fit just fine! All carseats are a son of a bitch but you work around it they grow out of them in a year anyways!

I had a graco rear facing seat in my access cab on the passenger side and it fit fine. However nobody could sit in front of it. The seatback was locked in it's most upright position and the seat was as far forward as it would go. My daughter is now almost 4 and for the last year or so nobody was able to sit in front of her comfortably in her forward facing seat either. So I sold the access cab I bought brand new a few months back and bought a used 05 Double cab. It's got more room in the back than our 00 4Runner, I couldn't be happier.

I absolutely HATE car seats... They are especially pain in the ass if you have regular cab and all your tools are behind the bench :(

Whats worse, I've never had an accident.. Knock on wood.. so why have I been wasting my time all these years.

As to having a kid in a forward facer. My kids are still in boosters and we get along fine as a 4 person family in the truck. Though I do move my seat up a notch or two to even out the comfort.

And we don't have middle seats fyi. I mean, you're saying you put a kid in the middle bench? wow. I tried that once... ONCE. Couldn't make right hand turns. But its about the only thing the middle seat is anywhere near safe for. Face full of radio anyone?

So you guys say you can fit a rear facing on the rear seat platform? I can't imagine. The old extended cab had a little fold out platform for them and it still didn't work great. regardless you'd have to fold the front seat all the way to the dash.

As for putting kids in the "middle seat". That's the safest place, but so many have either no middle seat (me for like my last 6 cars) or 2 kids. Put em anywhere and drive safely.

I wish they still made a subaru brat like thing. That was a pretty cool ride. I never had one, but I had a couple of the 4 door 4x4 models from that era. Engine was pretty solid back then.

I put my son's rear facing car seat(graco) in my 08' access cab every now and then. The passenger seat had to be pulled a head somewhat but it wasn't bad. Fortunately, my son usually rode in the car and not the Taco....but when the situation dictated that we had to take the truck.....it was a tight fit but doable.

Now that he is in a front facing seat there is a lot more room.

Sorry for the crummy pic but it was snowing last night...

This is a evenflo model from wal-mart that has jungle animals on it.
We fit our 6 yr old and our 2mo old and my wife still has legroom.

Hey thanks poynter.....i've already installed an even-flow seat exactly like that in my truck, although it was from babies r' us....anyways, the model of the car seat was the: evenflow "clio".......wondering if that's the one you've got in your truck??

The rear seats in the earlier access cabs are different.

This is the reason I got a double cab and got rid of my 98 access cab. Try putting an infant in a rear facing seat without that suicide door!
