did they advise you to return before the 12 year warranty period after the treatment? If he brought it in for an initial inspection, the treatment would have taken place.

What state are you in? The extended frame warranty is for trucks registered in Rust Belt states only I believe. If you’re not in one, that would explain why you didn’t receive the treatment but not why your frame rusted so thoroughly. :notsure:

    Yes that's correct.

I would call corporate and press them for the details of yours, mine was a second and final within 12 years but IDK if the 2.5 gen is different. Better to get it right from Toyota.

Unless maybe it was originally from a rust state. My friend bought her 2006 in MA back in 2008. Moved to NC a few years ago and hers rotted out.

edt: just read response above so ignore the following

but isn’t the point that you should get 2 inspections before 12 yrs. I had one and a coating so I’m owed one more inspection before the 12 yrs is up?

Yes if that's the same process as my 2010. That's my belief, but it could be a different timetable for the 2015..hence my advice to get something on the record from Toyota stating

Everyone on here this is what the stealership does never ever ever trust the dealership its like trusting a meth head with an Uzi that just lost his job, wife, and dog. Dont let Toyota or stealerships get away with this.
I cannot believe Im in this situation, but the dam thing rusts from inside out I just didnt think it was this far gone. Ive shamed myself and my family now Im searching for redemption much like Luke did. Is frame Yoda among us?
I and dude above both were never told there's a 2nd inspection.
In addition if your in Michigan there's a lemon law attorney named Steve Letho I am looking if he has a video on Toyota frame lawsuits.

Not salty KY, southern KY and I checked the VIN with the dealer today they said it was out of warranty since Jan. 2019 and yes they inspected the frame once and DID NOT apply any anti-corrosive goop (would have remembered that).
I want to get a copy of their inspection of course if they will give it to me. If they don't that doesn't help their case.

Their not coating it seems odd but might give you some ground to stand on to fight for it..I'm no lawyer though.

I definitley would call corporate and run it by them. I clarified the letter I got from them a few years ago that way and proceeded per the plan. Mine got the first inspect and coating I think 2017-18 spring. Rotted out April last year..check my album for pics. Got it reframed and loving it since.

If it was under warranty when inspected, which it was and passed inspection then it should have had been given non corrosive compound goop coating. If it didnt pass then frame should have been replaced, so since it passed I do not know any circumstance where they could pass it and then somehow NOT be required to apply the non corrosive goop coating.
    Do you?

So assuming pass = application of non corrosive goop coating then I would absolutely agree. They would then be liable as they did not perform the required maintenance as the recall detailed.
I guess Im just hoping there is not some weird a$% exception where they can pass it and somehow not have to apply the coating.

Anyone else heard a way for them to pass the frame but NOT be required to apply the coating?

My understanding is the frame passing the first inspection means you get the coating. More here:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/toyota-frame-settlement-postcard.468756/

Hence my comment earlier if they said it passed and did not coat, you might have some room to argue for a frame if you can prove they did not coat.

Exactly what I think too because coating the frame now would do nothing to help it, its too late now. The only way to fix it now is completely new frame OR frame restoration/safety caps (which the dealer is not going to do).

Run that by Toyota corporate, who knows. I’d be careful about getting hopes up because, even if the dealership never applied the compound, the warranty period was up years ago on your truck. Sounds like all bets are off after 12 years if you missed your shot at the final inspection.

My suspicion also, but if the dealer did not apply the coating on the first inspection (which was part of the requirement) then maybe there's grounds to fight it.

Worth the time it takes to make a call! I’m going to guess the coating still shows as an outstanding recall that was never completed and Toyota will knock the ball back into his court. Hope the OP finds a solution one way or another.

if a rust caused perforation of greater than 10 mm is found the frame will be replaced.

If rust damage with less than 10 mm perforation is found then in the defined "CRC" states (see below) the frame will have Corrosion Resistant Coating applied--if the frame was not previously replaced, or CRC was not previously applied.

According to the below if you are not in a cold climate state then you do not get the CRC application. I used to live in TN and that is actually where it was inspected so according to this if I passed I think still would not have gotten the CRC application.
However there was still a warranty in TN and a replacement program. Even though I passed I was still never told about a 2nd inspection assuming I was supposed to have a 2nd one not being in a non CRC state.
    This is messed up.

This settlement will also include CRC (Corrosion Resistant Compound) application. Toyota is currently preparing parts for CRC application process. When available, CRC application will only be available for vehicles registered in the Cold Climate States that pass frame inspection criteria, and did not:

    • Previously have the frame replaced, if a Tacoma and/or:
    • Previously had the frame sprayed with CRC under any previous campaign, if a Tacoma

Note: This campaign covers vehicles currently registered in the following Cold Climate States (together, “Cold Climate States”): District of Columbia (DC), CT, DE, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VA, VT, WI & WV.
