I used those in college less that 10 years ago! Blue books too.

Well, I'm officially no longer the youngest generation in the office. I dropped this one on a younger coworker today, and she had no idea what I was referencing.

How many can remember when aircraft instruments were black light reactive? They positively "glowed" and were so dang easy to read.
Shame they did away with that. Can only wonder as to why, but I suspect it had something to do with, uh, radiation... idk.

I have my dad's circular slide-rule from his B-24 & B-17 days that also glow under a black light. The first E6B I was issued (actually won it in a competition in ground school) was still the type that glowed under a B-L.

Which brings up: Who had to learn to use a slide-rule in high school? I had to for chemistry class. (Electronic calculators were invented by then, but too dang expensive and still primitive.)

**Circular & straight slide-rules work identically. If you learned on one you could use the other with no problem. The back side was different though.**

Yep, those ships were a standard, a classic. My favorites were always the nudes. (I see one in the photo too! yay)

I missed it by a couple of years in school, but taught myself how to use a sliderule just 'cause I wanted to know how.

They are extremely capable and will never run out of battery power. I also learned how to use an abacus. It too will operate when the power goes down. All of the shops in South East Asia used an abacus and those guys were FAST!
