Imagine knowing a guy who has $40K just sitting in his checking account because "It's a safe place for money..." he doesn't "need" it...he just is super conservative...
You say to him..."You know, if you don't need that money you should start moving it to a Roth or just straight up stock account, store it in there and buy an index fund...Or, My move would be 100% $NVDA right here any time under $220..."

So he's got that cash losing 7% to inflation this year...still in that account...
And today I get to say to him "Well your $40K would have got you 181 shares of NVDA and you'd be at $48,0000 right now..You could set a trailing stop now and make 20% on that money....which you'll never see in it's lifetime in a checking account..."

But nope...
I couldn't fathom not understanding economics, finances and inflation...

Nice seeing GME with a continued lovely day. Making my last week purchases very happy.

 

But what if the market tanks and that NVDA is now worth $32k?

 

You see he doesn't NEED the money so he can wait it out...I don't think $NVDA will go tits up, and this is a bottom of the barrel price...remember it split last year...and a blue chip will beat inflation 100% of the time

But Warren Buffet doesn't need the money either and he's sitting on a large pile of cash to drop in the market on the next major correction (if he hasn't done it already).

 

what if that WAS the correction......

If you bought 200 shares of $DIS and panic sold at $85 on the covid dip when you should have been buying you'd be regretting that move now too...I mean what are YOU going to do with that cash? Buy more $GME? What kind of an asshole....

I would invest more of my savings into something..... but, I'm 32, a travel tech, and that money sitting in savings will help more on a big down payment on a house or truck than it will in this current market. Now if I were older and settled down where I wanted to be, then my outlook would be your outlook.

 

You don't know what the market is going to do. Take that large sum of savings that you "don't need" right now and dollar cost average in. That way you don't get screwed on a dip, but you also don't get the big upswing either.

Traditionally, the market moves up, so the dollar cost average strategy is sort of a safe way to increase your overall wealth.
