I recently noticed that of all the Gen 3 models, the 2019 seems to have most issues. So far I'm very happy with mine, a TRD Sport 4x4 purchased used with 48k miles after 6 months. What have others experienced with theirs?

I should mention this is my 5th Toyota truck over the last 40 years. Out of all those, I've had one part fail and it cost a whole $7 to replace so you could say I like them...a lot!

Basically it depends on how it’s maintained. Any year won’t last long without issues if not maintained. Trans fluid /all fluids should be changed by now . Maf sensor cleaned, throttle body cleaned then it should last a long time regardless of year

Consumer Reports was one and I think Edmunds was the other. I still expect they're better than any competitor

Those are crap. Don’t believe them. It’s all about proper maintenance

My 2019 would beg to differ. Please show specific source of your info (and Consumer Reports does not count).

It’s been all downhill since Tacoma peaked in 2017.

For the OP's benefit. I know this is the internet and all, but come on...

Just for shits and giggles I'm gonna say that the 2020s are the best.

When I first started looking at a newer Taco, I had read that the '16 & '17 models had some issues based on just being a newer version but later models had ironed them out. I know many dis CR but I've been a reader for decades and being an engineer appreciate most of their testing criteria. They're not always right but they gather a lot of data to use in their evaluations and have no allegiance to anyone so for those reasons I tend to trust them. And I've used their guidance for over 40 years and have yet to have been steered wrong with any of the choices I've made based on their testing.

Not sure how proper maintenance figures into vehicle recalls. The 2019 have had 4 total but still nothing that concerns me. I was just looking for first hand experience.

Of course and I'd naturally respond by saying the 2019s are better :)

Agreed the 4.0 1GRFE V6 on the 4th & 5th gen 4Runner and 2nd Gen Tacoma is the best engine - even with the ancient 5 speed auto trans.

We cleaned out our garage this weekend and I snapped a pic of my wife's new 4 Runner next to my truck. I have a 2019 TRD Off Road...(I believe there was a recall on a fuel pump or something, maybe another thing...but they were handled during my maintenance visits). I bought my truck new Jan 2019 and now have 158K miles on this truck, many in 4WD (we own a horse farm). I'm slightly older and have had tons of vehicles (we buy my wife a new car every 2-3 years); this truck has been a tremendous value and the best of any car I've owned as far as reliability...basically I just get in it and go.

My son has a 2002 Tacoma (4x4 Off Road with the rear diff locker) that my best friend purchased new and sold to my son...that truck has 250K miles (I'll probably catch him). I LOVE this truck!
