Hello, I have a 2018 taco, with approximately 42k miles on it. The check engine light came on about a month ago. Took it to firestone for diagnostic, and received an error code p0348. Firestone told me both vvt sendors in bank 2 and the cam shaft position sensors have failed and need to be replaced. They quoted me $800 to replace the cam shaft sensor, however, they cant even give me a quote for the vvt sensors as they are back ordered. I cant afford $2400 to replace 3 sensors, and wondering if anyone else has received this error, has had these sensors replaced, and the cost? Does anyone have instructions on how to replace these? I may try to do it myself. I cant believe Im saying this, as I have had tacos for going on 30 years now, but the 3rd gen seems to not be the same reliable vehicle, and it bums me out. Not even sure what I would buy, if I decide to sell this one and go with another truck.

    Thanks.

Its cutting it close but do you still have your powertrain warranty?

Unfortunately I only got the basic warranty with the vehicle, which, why not its a taco, they run forever right? I believe it is only valid for 36k miles.

Thank you! I had no idea even what portion of the vehicle that the sensors were under. Much appreciated friend, I'll call back the dealership and hopefully I can straighten them out.

Powertrain may not cover sensors, but to have all those sensors go bad at once is not very common. To me it sounds like it's a deeper issue than that.

I’d look into it yourself or take it to Toyota.

Exactly for all those sensors to go especially under 50k is fishy to me.

Thank you at all. Turns out mice at through the wiring harness. Toyota quoted me $7500 to fix this. Unfortunately looks like i will have to file an insurance claim to cover this.....I'm sure my rates won't increase/s. This is the second time this has happened, but different wire. I guess they really love love the soy in the new wires. I want to let everyone know what happened in case someone runs across this issue in the future.

I was just going to say check for rodent damage.. those sensors rarely go bad at your mileage. Thankfully you didn’t have Firestone do any work.
Same exact thing happened to me, insurance covered. So far no rate increase for the $2000 repair bill they had.

How often are you driving your truck? Is it sitting in the same spot for days?
I would start by switching up your parking spot, even if it's like 10 feet away as rodents are a creature of habit. Secondly I would throw a few dryer sheets under your floor mats that might help in deterring them from returning.
