It definitely is weird. Another theory, the factory might have ran out of inventory and had to buy elsewhere?

I wonder if those were installed on the assembly line. I have a 2022 with poor backup camera. I came on here to find what is wrong with mine but others have voiced the same thing. A buddy of mine said his backup camera is not as good as his Camry. My 2018 Camry is far better than my 2022 Tacoma backup cam. Llooks worse than a cheap aftermarket replacement. Now I feel like pulling it out to see the tags on them.

Guaranfukentee this didn't happen. The factory would not source DEPO CAPA headlights under any circumstances.

OP chose some poor wording for the title. Assuming the factory would do this is ridiculous.

Hmm… I hope that’s not true but with the supply shortage you might be on to something.

This was way before supply chain shortages and I’m not assuming anything I’m telling you guys the facts. I picked this up from a dealership with 0 miles I’m the original owner and the headlights have never been removed until now and these are what were in the truck. I’m not making this shit up I could give f about the headlights I just put 1200 OEM LEDs in I just thought it was interesting to find these instead of Toyota Japanese part numbers.

Guys did the same on motorcycle's, and snowmobiles back in the day removing the speedo cable. When it came down to selling them down the road, they use to tell the potential buyer it was hardly used.

    Yeah
I’m going with the dealership smashed it (maybe not even smashed but slightly damaged it) and being a tacoma knew it would sell either way so they tossed some cheap non-OEM replacements on and figured the schmuck that bought it would never know.

It's a global industry. It looks very well made that probably what Toyota had in stock that day

The bumper protrudes out past the headlights so that truck would have had to take a really hard front impact for BOTH headlights to be damaged.

Could have smashed 1 light but replaced them both so they would match perfect being that it's not OEM.

Some dealers will sub their body work out. Some body shops will replace things in sets instead of the singular item if the replacement parts come in sets. My father in law bought a body shop a couple years ago and they hoarded things like single side steps and lights and such. We think their idea was to only replace the damaged item and sell the other one.

Someone hit the passenger side of my 2016 and the force broke the tabs on the driver side headlight. We were surprised to see it was damaged when we tore it down for the estimate.

Those lights don't come in pairs. That truck was damaged and aftermarket lamps were put in there. There is no other explanation for it. Toyota isn't going to use capa parts on the assembly line.

Those parts are cheap for a reason, poor beam output and yellowing lenses. I work in a shop and I do my best to reject capa parts and fight for oem.

Replaced my yellowed, cracked OEM with after market so far they have outlasted the OEM's Little tedious to adjust them but they are still spot on.

I would seriously doubt that the dealer would put in aftermarket parts. They are not paying retail for their parts. It had to be somewhere else. Even if it was bought from a southeast dealer that was damaged in the port install lot, they would still have access to OEM parts.

Is there a chance the truck was LED optioned from factory and the dealer downgraded it to sell to you?

That makes the most sense to me.

I can’t remember if LEDs we an option in 2019.
