The East, particularly the Atlantic, is murderville. Not sure who will come out of it but the West will likely have a tired opponent. If I'm Calgary, Colorado, or Minne I'd be going all in.

He's a UFA next year and with the Suter/Parise $12MM in dead cap Minnesota probably couldn't afford him even if he wanted to stick around another year or two. I'd bet he's done after this year.

For sure. Toss in the Blues and those 4 are the threats in West. In the East I think any qualifying team can win. They are all really good, and a few that really stand-out (like FL, TB, Car, NYR etc)

Looks like the Leafs were used to try and get a better price for Fleury from the Wild, quoted from SN:

Aid throw Penguins in that mix too, they’re playing really well and 5th in the League in points at the moment. Metropolitan alone has 3rd, 4th and 5th and 10th place points in the League. Atlantic 2, 6, 8th and 9th in points.

I really like the Rakell trade, for the Pens. It makes sense from a money standpoint. You get a guy to play wing with Geno that has some proven ability. Even though it seems like a lot, it really wasn't. Simon shouldn't be on the roster anyways, ZAR I do like and he plays hard but he doesn't produce much. And we have enough bottom-6 forwards that can fill that role. The goalie prospect was good but we still have our other top goalie prospect and Jarry is young(ish) still. And the pick is what it is. So I'm all in on that. Nice move.

What the Pens gave away wasn't much. Both Aston-Reese and Simon are UFAs, like Rakell. The difference? They have like 3 or 4 goals between them this year and not much more over the last few. Both are 27 and aren't going to get any better. I don't like to see us trade away high draft picks but when is the last time The Pens didn't?

Ya I agree. I would've considered trading a 1st rounder if it was like Boeser, Miller or something coming in return maybe. I didn't think we were going to go after a big name like that though. I was actually hoping for Garland but Rakell is a welcome surprise. And I read that Hextall is hoping to resign him, which would be cool. So ya, I'll take that trade every time. Still will be interesting to see what all happens in offseason, with Rust and the core veterans. But I guess we have the summer to talk / worry about that lol.

Rust being an RFA needs to be signed. If they like the way Rakell plays, then something has to give. I believe Kapanen is a RFA. I thought he would have been traded yesterday. Once Zucker (if, LOL) returns, along with McGinn, Kapanen likely becomes a 3rd liner, possibly even a 4th liner. That's not going to enhance his ability. If that is where he ends up I am not sure he will even be in the line-up come payoff time. Now if he gets hot... that is another story. Maybe Letang is unsignable. I hear he is looking for a premium contract. So if Kapenen or Letang go, or maybe Petterson via trade, signing Rust and Rakell becomes possible.

Yes the east teams you mentioned look very tough, like last year.

Ya Kap is RFA after this year. I thought there was a chance he was getting traded yesterday also. But how he played last game, is exactly what I like seeing out of him. If he played like that more often then I'd be totally happy with him. Assuming everyone is healthy come playoff time, I go Jake Sid Erod...Rust Geno RR...Kap Carter Zuck...McGinn Teddy Heinen (and rotate Boyle in as needed). Of course Sully will rotate that all around. But just looking at that, not too bad. I might be missing someone but just off the top of my head that sounded good to me lol.

As far as next year, I bet we get Letang signed. Unless he does want 8mil+, in that case I let him go but I don't think it'll happen. I bet we give him 4-5yrs at 7m(ish). Rust I'm sure we will try but if he gets like 6m or something, you gotta let him walk. But hopefully he can get done for 5ish. And no idea, with Geno. Hopefully he takes a pay cut and stays lol.

I could see that line-up, maybe switching Rodriguez and Rust though. Maybe Kapenen does ok on a 3rd line. I sure do like the way Boyle plays, especially for an old man. LOL. He also is on the PK and during a playoff run you might want to take Rust off, as good as he is, since he play on the PP and quite a bit at even strength.

It's going to be hilarious when the Golden Showers miss the playoffs after all the deadline tomfoolery.

That team went from a genius build with a machine of a team to kind of a joke, very quickly. It's weird. I still thought when they acquired Eichel that it was going to make them a very serious contender but it looks like there are just other factors in play that will probably not end up being a good run for them this year. Injuries, they don't play tight like they used to, the don't have that possesion like they once did. And goaltending has been a bit spotty. And coaching and management is questionable at times.
