Anyone trading their Taco for a Tesla Model 3?

My work is 30 miles round trip and have a Honda Civic that get 30mpg still. I'm investing in a motorcycle again which is good timing and it gets 60+mpg. EV motorcycles are almost as expensive as a new Leaf so in time I"ll switch to a EV bike.

 

Go to the Tesla site and count only 35 states with service centers. They state that they build their vehicles to eliminate the need for service. That is both scary and laughable at the same time - I decided to keep it laughable and bought a Toyota hybrid. Purchased it used at the start of the lockdowns (for a song), and already had two of them in the family that each are still going with over 200K on the ODO. Solid 45mpg, no range anxiety.

 

Well range anxiety is for those that can't add or subtract. I never encountered that in the Tesla.

 

How much is it to replace the Tesla battery in ten years or so when when it needs replacing if available and at what extra costs to you. Everyone thinks that electric is the way to go , but what about electricity will be good when the Grid fails and can not support all the electric vehicles out there. Nickle is on a shortage list as all the electric vehicles are using it all up.
I will stay with Gasoline...

 

I spent 25min between 2 different gas stations this morning with pumps that didn't work. What a waste of time. The non-Tesla charging networks aren't reliable or maintained well, but outside of a long driving day or a road trip, it's got to be nice to have a "full tank" every morning like my phone....

 

Any tesla fan site will be full of epic trips proposed with maps of where to get charged along the way. Last time I had to think like that was on a motorcycle heading to Alaska. YMMV

Tesla batteries only last 10 years? If the grid fails gas stations can't pump gas either. Batteries are evolving and using less lithium, Nickel and Cobalt. It's still a technology in its infancy and improving with the reduction of those minerals.

lets be 100% real here... if the grid goes down you are not getting gas either. are you going to go get a hand pump and pump it out of the tanks yourself? yea with the chaos going on if a grid goes down... yea good luck with that.

Nope not me. I like the idea of an electric car but no thanks for now. You think the oil companies have you by the balls just wait until everyone is trying to charge their car AND run their home at night.

Nope not EVERYONE. That's the point. Ask an electrician how much power you can get out the transformer that serves your part of the neighborhood. The grid is not ready for it nor the infrastructure to support it.

 

Right, not every household has an EV. There is money coming to build up infrastructure to handle EV's. Under 2% of the cars on the road in the USA are electric. Your scenario isn't valid until maybe there's 50% or more of US cars that are EV. By that time a lot of the infrastructure will be updated to handle it. Think positive.
