because you could’ve poached the bird for one feather:rofl:
I have stood there while talking to fish and game, and park rangers with a jay feather in my ball cap. They didn’t seem to think it was important.

Depends . Is said yard out of city limits with signs posted no trespassing and is the dog crapping on vehicles daily ?
Obviously I would try everything else first but to be fair i wouldnt do anything but admire a bird if it crapped on the grass.

Some of them are. Lots are not raised. Like mallard and wood duck. There has to be some exception etc. I looked at the list in the law and it is extensive and there are some in that list that are common fly tying materials. All that said - I Like live birds!! But not that darn robin that was crapping on my nice Celica!!!

We have some ducks. And have purchased quite a few chicks, and eggs from this company. https://www.metzerfarms.com/mallard-ducks.html
I’ve been learning more and more about birds. Watched a seagull eat a pigeon. Whole.
Ring neck pheasant are an introduced species. Just like some trout here in America. We have turkeys here in central Cali and they are non native. Those things are a big pest. Peck the reflection in your car door. Chase your kids down the street. And the minute you tell the in-laws, “it’s cool, I’ve got a bow” they give you this look like they don’t eat turkey. Lunacy. Some people think it’s less cruel to pluck down off live birds than to harvest the animal and use it for all its worth. I’ve harvested a couple of ducks and washed out the nicest down I’ve ever seen. Over 900 fill count. but I’m sure if you purchase feathers it’s on the up and up. I highly doubt there is anyone out there, snagging songbirds for a living. But you never know. In this world…. Anything is possible. There was a exotic animal smuggler that wiped out a butterfly on the south? Rim of the Grand Canyon. Now if I could just stop the bees from pooping on my truck…

So a bird flies through the sky... a feather drops into the bed of my truck. During a routine traffic stop, law enforcement official sees feather in the bed of the truck. I end up getting ticketed for possession... of a feather.

It’s a federal crime, so….no one really cares. Like I’ve said I’ve had multiple conversations with fish and game and park rangers with a feather in my hat and they just called it macaroni.

Oh I know... A buddy of mine used to be on the job in NYC, and he, like Tom Cruise in "The Firm", was taught to know the law (NYS VTC) backwards and forwards. There are laws on the books that nobody in their right mind would write you up for, expect him.

He threw the book and people who thought they were above the law. He would get dragged into court, and he won every time.

So in the end, you never know what to expect, especially if you act like a tool...

I put a large owl years ago on my barn roof to keep the crows away.....worked for a few days then those crows got wise, and pooped all over it.

Nice. So. A truckload of feathers and an empty pellet gun=punishable offense; fly fishing, or camping with children and it looks like lord of the flies=no need for punishment.
