Think about how you would define reliability and how to measure it. Once you have done that, consider how much you trust magazines and random people on the internet to do it for you.

Not my criteria to define. And I trust engineering data and statistics having spent a career in the industry. And random people offer insight into their experiences such as forum member garander posted.

I wasn’t aware that defect metrics from the auto manufacturers was publicly available. Care to share?

My 19 had the fuel pump recall…interestingly mine actually failed and stalled my truck. Got the recall done and it has been fine since. No other problems

    Zero problems with my 2019.
Other than fuel pump and brake light recall.
Even the white paint job hasn't had a single issue so far.
    Last fall I put 265 75 16 Cooper at3 4s tires on it and I'm still getting 18.5 - 19 mph.
    I love this truck.

The PO did the same with the tires on my truck, I wondered why the speedo read slower than actual speed. Is that highway mileage?

You noticed? Or read someone else's drivel?

Oh yea. You mentioned Consumer Reports.

They have some great information on steam irons and washing machines. Vehicles and tires? Not so much.

My 19 has been perfect except the fuel pump and 3rd brake light recall neither of mine were a problem but dealer fixed anyway.

I'm rarely on the interstate so 99% of my driving is on 2 lane roads posted at 55mph. With these tires it seemed to correct the speedometer. And mpg is hand calculated with the bigger tires factored in.
For me the sweet spot is right around 50 mph.

And here I am with 21k miles. :0
I should drive it more maybe.
But I do enjoy driving my first gen though.

Only problem I have had with my 2016 is a battery. That's it.
Had the tranny flash done years ago and imo drives better than the loaner 2021 they gave me when they had my truck and did the undercoating campaign for 3 days.
Of course I have better tires and a fox suspension added. Mine shifted better than the 2021 imo.

Seems to me, every time someone starts a thread here about issues they’re having it has been 2016-18

Thanks all, those are the type of first person experiences I was looking for and very informative instead of snarky comments.

It appears that the rare issues that come up are being addressed through recalls and since it appears most have already been addressed on mine, I should expect to enjoy the same trouble free experience I've had with my previous Toyotas - two early pre-Tacomas, one first gen Tundra, a second gen Tundra, a second gen Tacoma, an FJ Cruiser and now my 2019. Love these trucks.

    Thanks again!

I read on the restroom stall at the bowling alley that 2019 Tacoma’s were absolutely the most reliable and the best Tacomas ever built.

    So it must be true!

Well to be fair, you should expect a few snarky comments when you come here with a thread titled "2019 Worst Reliability?" and this unsubstantiated statement: I recently noticed that of all the Gen 3 models, the 2019 seems to have most issues.

I gave up on Consumer Reports decades ago - when the VW Rabbit first came out (I did say decades ago!!!). My problem with CR is that they gave the VW a super-high score, but kept zero data on CV joint issues for some B.S. reason about FWD being too new to track. It allowed them to ignore multiple CV issues on the Rabbit and keep giving top marks in spite of known issues.

From then on I realized that CR is just a shill for "preferred brands" ... of everything they purport to cover.

    That’s definitely false.

My buddy has 19 and it’s been flawless, at 35k miles. My 18 has been great as well, no mechanical issues whatsoever. I’m at 35k miles as well.
