I went with matte black aluminum to replace my chrome rear. I like chrome, but the rear bumper just didnt match well with the front being color matched and black.

 

For me, the chrome rear bumper caps were like the only piece of chrome on the truck (outside the badging). It looked very out of place. I had no hesitation in changing them out, especially after I dinged up the left one... gave me a good excuse to do it.

 

Same here, the badges were the only things on the outside with chrome. I like all my chrome inside the truck though, makes it feel more luxurious than it actually is.

 

I still haven't debadged my taco. Idunno I've owned the truck for so long hasn't bothered me to take off any of the fake chrome . Almost wanna say I'm proud owner and the chrome Tacoma sticks out and says this is me I'm a Tacoma .

It's times like these (photos) that make me think FML. I get to look at 8 million other peeps and their tailpipes. Oh, and drive past manicured McMansions on the way to my abode.

 

I get that. We’re were in that spot a few years ago. Husband had a job that paid serious dough. But was stressful and some of his staff would call at all hours. One year on vacation at a National park, we saw some folks working and he says “I could do that” (pointing at the guy holding the clipboard). I says “fine, find the job, let’s go. We always have to travel to see these places, why not just live and work here?”

It took a year and a half, but he finally got the call and we moved to Yosemite NP…
It was quite a paycut but we made it work. And we’ve never been happier. (Through promotions and advancement, we’ve made up the salary loss and are back where we left off but without the stress.)

my advice to you, and anyone for that matter, don’t be miserable for the sake of a dollar. If you want it bad enough, you can make it happen. And if it’s the Parks you desire to work for, I am you biggest cheerleader and support! I will do whatever I can to help you find that job!

 

I have a very unique set of skills. What I can promise you, is that they don’t translate well into park service.

With regards to my job, we’ve been thinking like you however…. Is it time to find a similar position in a dissimilar location?

 

I agree. My dad told me he'd rather be poor and happy than rich and miserable.

I happen to love the work I do. It's just that I want to have my cake and eat it, too....

 

dont be so sure about the NPS skills needs. Unless you program middle launch codes, of course

Husband oversees a nearly $100M budget for Facilities Maintenance and Engineering. He’s a civil engineer, loves his work (mostly because he doesn’t have to deal with the 5M visitors )

Well, I am an engineer by trade. I do cool things. Unfortunately, the things I do don't happen in National Parks or ski resorts...
Ideally my job would be in a ski / mountain town...

Mechanical. I specialize in auxiliaries on things that float and move through the ocean.
