2019 Worst reliability?

Lookie here, they finally showed up.

 

What’s wrong with the 2GR FKS?

 

So far pretty stoked with my '19 TRD OR 4x4 long bed. It had the fuel pump recall done but other than that it's been pretty nice. I do keep after all the maintenance. (even bought a new grease gun to deal with the 2 grease fittings on the front shaft)

 

What the heck is that part?

 

32k miles on my 19' V6 4x4.
Only mystery issue i have had: My trans shifts a little funny when going very low speed from stop sign to stop sign in my neighborhood jumping to 3k rpm all of a sudden when i let off the gas.

 

lol when people flaunt reliability with a 35k mile statement.

All I said is, my buddy and I had no mechanical issues so far, and to say 2019 Tacoma is worst year is just nonsense.

You should go back to 2nd gen forums and talk about your truck engines, seems like you have nothing else to do.

 

Where did I say there was anything wrong with it? The glorified Highlander engine in the 3rd gen Taco isn't as good in my opinion as the 4.0 in the previous generation Tacoma, 4Runner and current 5th gen 4Runner.

To be fair there might not be as long of a data point with the 3.5, but purely speaking from personal experience and anecdotal evidence from my time on the 4th gen 4Runner forums, that engine is damn near bulletproof. Gas mileage is average, but it just runs buttery smooth. My own 2005 SR5 4Runner has over 250,000 miles and I had no issue giving it to my dad for him to use as a shit car. As long as he does the bare minimum upkeep on it, I wouldn't be shocked if it goes well over 300,000 miles without breaking a sweat. There's a guy somewhere in the Denver metro area who has over 600,000 miles on his 4th gen Runner and still rocking. Amazing...

That’s awesome, those 4.0s are definitely great engines. My dad has 2004 and 2013 4runners and they’ve been great.

I do think that 3.5 will easily go to 300k with regular maintenance. Ive been abusing my truck quite a bit(off-road) and she still drives like new. I’m actually surprised it’s still in one piece.

 

Call me crazy, but I feel that Toyota didn't carry over the 4.0 to the 3rd gen Tacos because they wanted to prioritize fuel economy over performance and quality.

 

You could be right about the EPA ratings, but IMHO 3.5 is not lacking performance or quality. 3.5 has like 50 more hp, and it’s typical Toyota quality engine.

3rd gen has been around for about 6 years now, and it’s the most popular midsize ever. I guess we will see how the 3.5 will be in the long run, so far it’s been great.

 

No doubt, the 2017 was the peak for tacomas.


Seriously though, I would never place much credence on anything that judges reliability after one year. Even the shittiest brands( dodge, chevy) will run reliably for a year or two. Long term reliability is where you need to look and one way to see that is to look at sales sites and see how many high mileage vehicles which are still selling for good money, not $1500-$5k. You will notice Toyotas are very high on that list. I see a lot of Tacomas with very high miles selling for good money and run excellent. Same goes for 4runners, LC's, etc. Toyota in general. Over time I have not seen that in other brands. But I have not separated that in specific years.

True, but that only happens with big three american mid sized trucks

True story: One day talking with a friend of mine who has a very old ford ranger( almost 20 years old. He tells me, "I broke 200k miles on the truck today". I said, "wow, very cool. have you had to do many repairs on the engine, and trans?" He responded, "no, the new engine has only 60k miles and the trans is at 80k miles" I laughed so hard when he said that.

 

Believe it or not, my 2007 ranger was super reliable. Sold it at 165k miles and it drove like new.

Replaced 2 thermostat housings, brakes, fluid changes, rotors, drums, air idle control valve and new throttle body. That’s 7 years of ownership, not bad at all.
