What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

lol, I'm a career IT guy but I'm one of the weird ones that doesn't use apps for anything. Even unplugged the DCM in the truck. Toyota can just keep wondering about what happened to the truck they sold until I sell it again in September.

 

I did this to my 2008 2nd Gen Tacoma that had 249K miles on it. I left the log and the used (49) oil change washers in a Zip-Lock bag inside the glove box. Hope that info got passed to the new owner so he sees that this truck has had TLC for its life. Someone got a sweet one! High mileage yes but 100 miles a day, mostly tollway, round trip will do that to ya.

 

I believe the two bars are to stiffen the frame by "triangulating it" and NOT protection for the catalytic convertor. They should be definitely tightened up. People (including me) take them off to install skid plates (which actually take their place in stiffening the frame).

 

Ended up designing and fabricating my own bed rack / crossbars. Pretty happy with how they turned out. What do you think?

They are meant to protect the catalytic converters from obstacles. If they were meant to stiffen the frame they would be welded on.

 

Well, this all happened today. Finally got around to hooking up the hidden light bar in the grill with the auxito switch panel. Works great. And less than half the price of the switch pros.





Also did a little upgrading to the soundstage inside. Added some infinity kappa tweeters to the wings to help balance the front soundstage.




My Revolution 5.29’s showed up today! Time to book an appointment with stellar built!

Did you run the wires to the tweeters in the dash? Technically, the doors are woofer signal only (unless different from the JBL).

How did you connect the additional tweeters to the stereo?

 

I already have infinity kappa 6x9 components. The crossover is mounted to the inside of the door panel. I simply tapped the tweeter output of the crossover. I’m running both sets of tweeters together from the same crossover.

 

Yes, they really are. They did my lift and CMR. Great job, fair prices.

 

This mod could be done with the oem system if you wanted. I installed infinity kappa 6x9 components previously with the crossover mounted inside the door panel, and ran a new wire through the door chase and up into the dash to connect the tweeter. So today, I simply tapped the tweeter output of the crossover for the second tweeter. They both work flawlessly and the frequency cross is correct because they’re both kappa 1.5” tweeters.

however, if you wanted to do this mod with the oem system, you would simply tap the dash speaker wire, and run the additional wire down and into the door (as I did) and place the supplied tweeter crossover in line mounted inside the door. Drill your holes, and mount your speakers.

been driving around for about an hour and re tweaking the sound in the truck. They’ve made a huge difference.

 

I have the same component tweeters, and was thinking of doing what you suggested, running it through the boot without the crossover, but the 3.5" JBLs seem to be doing the trick. We did a complete speaker replacement, along with a bunch of other items this last weekend, so it's been on my mind.

 

Where'd you unplug the DCM? I'd really like to shut out Toyota!!

 

Just because we accept one invasion of privacy in the name of convenience does not mean we must accept all invasions of privacy. I'm ok with Google having that location data because I use their location services on a daily basis for navigation (because the built in nav in these trucks is garbage), but I am not ok with Toyota having the same information.
