In terms of rust removal or cleaning up the frame is it okay to use an angle grinder with fine wire brush or sanding pads? Or should I stay away from power tools so that I don’t cause further damage or potentially cause more harm than good? Thank you

The real question is how you'd approach the boxed areas you can't see?

Have you done the full on 'exam' that's been recommended?

My lunchtime Diet Coke says that frame is better off being replaced.

Thank you all. I’m gonna attempt to remove the bed and continue to do some more inspection of the frame. Any tips for removing the bed? Also I plan on doing the welding!

If the outside looks that bad the inside is going to be alot worse, especially around the cats.

    Remove the taillights
    Remove the taillights harness
Remove the gas cap and remove the gas filler section
Remove one tire for the hoist to slide under,
Remove the six bolts holding the bed to the frame.
Removing the tailgate reduces weight but isn't necessary.

I am not trying to sound insulting, but, did you buy this truck a week ago and now can't get it through the safety inspection?

It's less Tacoma and more mod
This thing is going to have much worse rust than is visible sadly. I just finished going through this with a truck that had far less rust and it still took a long ass time to do correctly.

I’ve had it for just over two years. Did not realize when I bought it the extent of the rust underneath.

holly hell, that looks even worse than your first few photos.

Frames aren't supposed to look like this:

I honestly can't believe you've been driving that thing in that state. That much rust doesn't appear overnight. The crack is the least of your worries.

    That frame is toast.

I would eat the whole frame if it tasted like baklava!

    It doesn't. I promise.

I can tell by smell and touch. Because I live close to a large Greek community, and I'm experienced at seeing it being prepared and served. :anonymous:

I absolutely love the stuff, the baklava I mean. I wish more of the restaurants I go to served it. In 'N Out and Breweries don't tend to be that fancy though. And I'm far too lazy to make it myself.
