The way things are going we will probably be forced to go electric somewhere down the line. In the meantime I want to enjoy IC vehicles for as long as I can, until I am force fed an electric. Charleton Heston comes to mind, "....when you pry it from my cold dead hands"

Having been force fed ICE for my whole life, it is nice to now have options of electric and hybrid. We are lucky to have the option of ICE, electric or hybrid. All great choices.

If the folks at GM used ideas...

They would build an EV-Camino, and have something to compete against the Maverick.

This is abjectly false. I got quotes from several solar providers in the area and they were between 30-40k to get my house(4ppl, well water) to net zero electric output before adding an electric car. I’m in Vermont and don’t know your states rules so feel free to fill me in but you don’t just get to make a bunch of electricity to put into the grid, you just use more of your own and your energy provider has to use less. You still need to front or finance the 30-40k and your savings are limited to the offset in your energy bill. Solar isn’t a zero sum game, they are businesses making money. If you financed it, it’s even worse. basically over a 10yr period you would pay $100-$200+ More per month than your utility Bill just to say you have solar. Add in electric car which is more expensive than my truck there aren’t any savings to be had outside of essentially paying an extra $200-500/month to feel like I’m making a carbon impact when the reality is the results are negligible at best and not fully understood since we don’t yet know the impact of lithium mining ina full electric world on things like ground water which is more important than air quality for human survival

I leased my panels and then paid them off after about the first year. Solar City/Tesla
makes any needed repairs or replacement and at the end of the Lease (25 years) I can opt for removal and disposal on their dime. (Hell, I'll be Fairy Dust by then anyway)

Check it out....advantage of a Senior Geezer who's been around the block. My Inverter went out-Tesla replaced it no cost to me. Panels were under producing-Tesla replaced 18 panels with upgraded units-no cost to me.

That’s good to know! I have a Tesla Energy solar system and might have some under producing panels.

When I put my system in, I wanted micro converters. That way, if one fails, rest still making power. Also, micro converters guaranteed 25 years like panels. My brother has Tesla panels, his inverter failed too. System amazing, haven’t paid a penny to sdge for electricity in over 6 years.

OP, costs are a relative thing. The first time you hit a pothole in your Tesla and have to buy a new rim and tire, and/or suspension parts (which is fairly common), you will wish you had a truck. Parts are VERY expensive on Teslas and repairs can take a long time waiting for parts. Not all garages can work on them and Telsa service departments have wait times. This was the case well before Covid. Not only that, but check your insurance rates for same coverage, VERY expensive. Fuel is just one cost. I would argue it is CHEAPER to drive your truck if you look at ALL the real and potential costs.
