Vagabond Drifter Camper Buildout and Mods

The pivot point at the very front of the cabover has hinges fastened by self tapping screws into the front cross member.

 

I only have one nights experience using the bed system, but I have found that there is a way around the window roll problem. I have the insulation package and have found I fold the window up and tuck them in because it isn’t possible to roll. The insulation package doesn’t zip all the way down to allow the strap to hold the roll. In this configuration, the bed opens fine with the windows folded.


If the insulation package is out for summer, I have found that I prefer to roll the windows and tuck them into the c-channel. This allows me to have more room inside the camper.


I will report back in a couple weeks after my Utah trip.

Has anyone had vagabond instal or installed themselves after the fact, a table bracket like on the alu cab? The one that slides under the overhang? Is there even room? I don’t have my drifter yet…. But soon…maybe…

 

Welp issue first time trying to test my solar panel.

It's pretty much plug and play with the prewire correct? Vagabond set me up with the correct Anderson connector for my Goalzero, but I'm not getting any watts coming through. Guess it's time to buy a multimeter! Hope it's not the panel itself. It did sit in my garage for a year and I neglected to see if they need to be stored in any certain way

 

What goalzero do you have?

 

I will be rock climbing in St George and eastern Nevada. I am hoping to hit Canyonlands this fall.

 

I have read that someone stated that it does fit on a third gen, since the drifter has more room above the cab on the third gen.

You could try swapping the wires, and check your fuse. My panel was wired different than my controller so once I swapped them it showed wattage.

fuse on the positive from the panel to charge point/controller, i don't think they're needed all the time though...

i'd definitely check to make sure you have the wires + / - correct though

 

Oh I don't even know where the fuse is/would be. But yeah I have been trying to look and see if anything could have been swapped but it doesn't look like it and also can't pull all that wiring out to check.


On another note, this was sooooooo close to being a great solution. If this fit under the handle and also cleared the awning, it would be both very hard to see and even harder to get at. Might actually find some synthetic washer to move the handle out and use longer bolts on the awning to do the same.

 

I changed my wiring on my SAE plug that then routes down to my controller. I guess the ZAMP one I used to have uses opposite wiring or something. Why do you feel the need to put that crazy of a lock on your camper, just curious? Do you live in the hood? Someone will steal your truck before they open the lid of the drifter and crawl through the top haha

 

I don't understand either. The t-handles on the rear window are so light duty and the same as many other shells. Bad Man will just pry that open real quick before they try to get in from the top. You should see how awkward it would be to try and open the tent not standing on the tailgate, not to mention then you think they're going to climb up and in?

 

Y'all definitely are not wrong. Have had a shell pried open before and a bike stolen so I'm both conscious and paranoid about it. Mostly just ordered that because it was the same cost as 2 decent padlocks and also just perfectly fits the dimensions of the lid(apart from depth if I want it on the back) and it can stay on while driving unlike padlocks that will beat up the paint. If people wanna bust in they definitely will, my fridge and batter won't be locked so those can get nicked easily if they get in. I've made a sliding axle lock for my bikes with all hidden or security hardware as a last measure. Honestly seems like covering the window is going to be a big priority.

Truck antitheft is next on the list after springs haha.

 

A window cover for the back is a must IMO. I have the front/rear and fan covers from Strawfoot Handmade and they are frickin’ awesome.

 

Nice weather today so two more projects off the list.

1. Added a strap for the antenna when its folded down so that it doesn't bob up and down hitting the rack.


2. Finally installed the shower suite in preparation for our trip this summer. Had this since last year but didn't have a chance to install it.



For anyone curious, I used RTV silicone to seal the holes I drilled into the Drifter.
