2nd Gen DIY Big Brake KIt -OEM parts- Part #'s provided (INSTALLED)

I had the upgraded rotors/pads on my truck and this mod was night and day. My truck was already heavy and I was pulling a trailer with a RTT.

 

Did 1200 miles on them over the past weekend from -230 feet up to 8200 feet on pavement, sand, silt, rock, and snow. No complaints whatsoever.

 

Does your brake pedal feel "squishy"? Some people think it is, others not...

 

I'd say that it feels more or less the same as it did with the stock brakes up front, which is to say that it feels normal for a Tacoma, but squishy compared to basically every other vehicle I've driven.

 

Has anyone used the aftermarket Advic pads & rotors? Wanted to know if they are any good since they are the OEM manufacture that toyota uses to make them.

 

I haven’t used them, but I wonder if they aren’t the same pad just not labeled toyota? Here is the back of the oem pads since I am going to be replacing mine soon.

 

All dealer parts arrived today, and the calipers should be here tomorrow!

The calipers did come in the next day.

Not going to do this brake upgrade until I'm ready to swap in some new coilovers, and that's not going to happen until it warms up a bit.

 

The bleeder screw on one mine was stripped out and wouldn't seal. Unfortunately I didn't notice it until I was bleeding them. NAPA exchanged it no problem but I lost a day waiting. Give it a check before you start.

 

Mine was the same problem, except it was also filled with sealant, so it went from being unbleedable to uncontrollable bleeding. Great QC...

 

I think I'm going with the power stop calipers for my truck so they match colors.

 

Was it the right side? (3317)
I just checked, and the left bleeder threads are clean, but the right is stripped/tight/dirty.

 

No, it was the driver side.

 

Going back through my paper brain looks like 3317 was the problem child for me.

 

Ok, so I just dropped off the SE3317 at Napa for a warranty exchange.

News: Napa has changed their Eclipse product line to ADO (Adaptive One Brake Calipers).

I'm told this is due to the bleeder valve issues...


They're currently replacing my right caliper with an ADO variant, and I should have it tomorrow to inspect. He was apprehensive about swapping both out, since he's eating a price difference.

The other option was to pay another $29 in freight to ship the closest Eclipse from Nebraska.

Anyone use ADO calipers before?

 

That's good to know. They just shipped me the ADO calipers. Bleeders look good on mine but I have no experience with the brand.

 

Well, after checking the brake-line inlet on the other Eclipse, I determined it needed to be swapped out too.
Picked up the replacement ADO yesterday, and was told to return today for the other side.

Here's the ADO on the left, and Eclipse on the right.



Threads on the ADO look good, but the coating isn't anywhere near as thick/nice as the Eclipse.
The ADO has a few gouges and scratches down to metal, but the pistons are not pitted like they are on the Eclipse.

I am thinking about doing this upgrade but I am not seeing ADO brand calipers on NAPA online. In addition to the Eclipse WHs that everyone is having issues with they list these Nugeon ones. Not sure if they are better than Eclipse but they appear to be uncoated, which is unfortunate. Anyone tried these?

They tried to switch me to NeGeon too... No coating.

I provided a link to the ADO above, but it interchanges on their site from the Eclipse numbers too.
