What do people spend the money they save from not buying electricity on?

My house is shaded by a metric crapload of trees. No panels for me. But then again, I only have two months in a year where I fall north of 100 dollars, and that's in Texas. The break-even of solar for me will be never.

But my camper loves it's little 100W panel.

30~40k is absolutely ridicules. I just hand picked an entire off grid system with batteries and grid tie for 25k. That includes 60 kWh of storage and 12 kWh solar system. We have sun 300+ days yr not 90 days like the north.

It’s funny, 3 years ago when I made that post, 35k seemed high still. Now that’s a damn bargain!

I still stand by my statement though. If anyone buys a vehicle and complains about gas prices after the fact, they bought the wrong vehicle. If you can’t afford to feed the horse, you shouldn’t have bought it.

This is why I bought a bike two and a half years ago. Much more fun than anything I’ve ever driven, great gas mileage and well, the fun factor.

Our base rate is .39/kwh and if we use over 200kwh, it’s .49. Plus they want a 6.6% rate increase January. We have little choice to change. If you don’t have solar here, your summer bills are mortgage payments.

Us guys that mention SDGE are in a very different situation. We have sun most of the year and our rates are through the roof, up to 59 cents per kWh.
My house runs only on electricity, no gas here. I moved in and my first bill was 880kWh because we ran the heater for a few days in the month. We are very conservative, but once again no gas. Bill was $380. My neighbors bill was $580 (now $60 after solar I saw it on his SDGE app). My 9.2kW system is all panasonic 25 year warranty for 17k after gov incentives.
In this area you break even in 4 year max. Add an EV and you're saving big time with gas. Socal is the ultimate for solar.
I can't imagine if I run any HVAC this summer or next winter. I'm looking at 400+ it a small 1500 sqft and most the winter I double layer sweatshirts. Its ridiculous.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
the only time i've considered a tesla is when one pops up for cheap.. To diesel swap it.

there are pros and cons to EV and ICE. personally if i was worried about gas mileage. i'd buy a toyota hybrid and enjoy 40-50 mpg regularly for the next 300k miles.

    Same. I ordered a white/white but I’m hoping to change it to a blue/white.

Makes me smile SDG&E hasn't gotten any of your hard earned $$$. Trying to digest change of providers coming up. Buddy with solar says solar panel owners will convert to this new system on Even Up Date? Just what I wanted to do with my time trying to figure out new change and if I want to opt out.

I’m sticking with sdge and their 20 year agreement. I still have 14 years left. If cpuc tries to nullify, there will be huge law suits.

if you hit a pot hole that big enough in ANY street car you deserve the damage. thats not a tesla thing that is a problem with whatever county you speak of's maintenance of the road.

Yep. I am not saying it can't happen with other cars. What I am saying is if you are driving a truck, you are 1) less likely to have tire/wheel/suspension damage 2) going to pay significantly less than $1K+ per wheel and tire. Telsa sport suspension and wheel/tire packages (like other similar cars) invite expensive damage. If I were buying a Telsa, I would want to know that the wheels are 4X more expensive than comparable cars.

Road could be fine one afternoon. After a night of heavy rain, the road could be full of pot holes the next morning. There isn't anybody anywhere patrolling for pot holes over night.

If your EV experiences a battery fire while under an overpass, or in a tunnel. Expect a bill if your insurance does not cover the damage to that infrastructure. That could be closed down 6 months to a year or longer.

Do you know of any instances that this has actually happened?
