Its pretty well understood, for most of the population, taking an active approach to investing usually leads to worse returns, so why bother spending the time to figure out wtf is going on? Put it into a spread of ETFs and call it a day, hopefully in 40 years you have way more than when you started.

The general barrier to entry and knowledge it takes to understand all this is pretty far out of normal people's purview unfortunately. And on top of that, investing (beyond your target date 401k/ira) requires you to have plenty of disposable income you dont need and understand you could lose.

A lot of younger people (ones more likley to be participating in online forums) dont have much of that.

And the last theory, is ive found the more i participate in an activity or sport, the less i want to talk about it online (for most things, not all). I spend a shit ton of time skiing, i dont talk about it at all on line, or on any forum. The people that do spend a lot of time investing and taking this active approach, probably dont want to spend their time discussing it. We are all here because we like to bull shit.
