Any Idea why there is weight difference and height difference when seemingly the only change is Outline White Lettering? @dToyo AT.png

When bought mine I asked this exact question, I had no idea why letters would make a 3 pound difference but the tire guy said thats what it is. The White letters are smaller than the black letters which was the reason, I was thinking BS the entire time he was talking but thats what I was told.

Curious how the At 3's perform on wet roads? I have the stock goodyear's right now and am in the process of deciding on new tires. I've narrowed it down to Ridge Grapplers or AT3's but was wondering. I live in North Florida and at times it rains quite a bit and I drive 60+ miles a day to work and back. I've saw where people say the ridge grapplers sometimes struggle with traction on wet roads.

The ATIII's are better than the ATII's but still not the best IMO, I had the Les Schwab Open Range AT's on before these and they were much better in the rain. Would have gone with them again but they were more $$$ than the ATIII's and they were out of stock.

An Outside White Letter tire is usually made by adding an additional strip of rubber to the sidewall of a tire, then shaving it down to reveal the white color. This should, in theory mean a OWL tire would always either be the same weight, if not a little heavier than its BSW counterpart.

We reached out to Toyo this morning for clarification and its likely this is an error in the weight on their site. The rep stated they have contacted the engineers and factory to make some confirmations and will update the website accordingly. They are also going to confirm the height information however the height is understandable as different tire molds can have different true OD's even with the same tire size.

    Great call out on this!

Haha I ended up with the LS Open Range. I wanted AT3s for my F350 but they were put of stock/backordered in my size for a year.

I'm pretty happy with the Open Range ATs in conditions so far. We'll see how they do this summer with dirt roads and trail head parking lots when the trailer is hooked up

I guess the real question would be, comparing to the stock goodyears with Kevlar, how would they perform? I mainly don't want something that when it's raining out, is gonna make my truck lose traction like it's on black ice. I understand that you have trade offs for different things. Just don't wanna die cause of a bad choice of tire. Lol.

Thanks for the quick update. I ordered my AT3 this morning before seeing this. Im trying to save some weight where I can chose AT3 over Grabber ATX (57lbs) partially due to weight. Please update me when you can, I have an install appointment Saturday 3/26/21 ata discount tire here in Austin.

    Thank you for your business!

Unfortunately we won't get any follow-up from Toyo. The rep who I spoke with looked over the info and confirmed it is likely an error and they would look into it and update the website if needed. It is unlikely that they would have any details by Saturday.

    PM headed your way.

So I have 2 sets of ATIII's, one on my 21' GMC 3500 and one on our 22' Tacoma, saying that my experience in the wet was with the GMC not the Tacoma so keep that in mind. I had 275/65/20's Open Country's on for about 10k but we bought a new Lance Truck camper and I needed more weight rating in my tires so went up to a 295/65/20 ATIII. What I noticed was with the Open Country's they never broke loose when it was wet but right after I put on the ATIII's they would break lose in wet when the Turbo would kick in. I haven't had the Tacoma out in the rain yet but the ATIII's did excellent in snow.

I guess I'll drop my .02 cents as I just hit 15k miles on my Toyo at3s.

    2014 TRD OR
    255/80/17 on TRD 4runner wheels

Overall I am pretty impressed. Definitely would buy another set after this.

Tread wear has been excellent (my BFG KO2s sucked comparatively). Tires being rotated every 5k miles.
    Minimal road noise.

Good (not great) in the rain but I'm sure the 255 width isn't helping here. My cooper discoverer at3s (265/75/16) worked better in the rain.

Zero issues keeping up with other trucks that have 285+ width tires in the sand dunes.

Cuts through the snow pretty good.

Ice...does any all terrain actually work well on black ice??

Biggest upside with the $6/gallon CA gas was no loss in MPG going from a 265/75/16 to 255/80/17 as these tires are really light for a true 33" E rated tire.

I believe gas mileage would be the only thing stock would win against these. That can somewhat be mitigated though by switching up the sizes. I shaved some pound going to a skinny LT from the WildPeaks SL. These are not true winter tires, but I have had dependable results in slick winter conditions and would have been more concerned with a stock. Don't know if this translates to wet conditions. With deep treads I have not had any issue in rain, but CO is not the rainiest either.

Believe they are made in two different locations. Japan I think and somewhere else i cant recall. So similar but different compounds weight difference. What i heard at least

I finally got to doing a chalk test and I was running mine too high when I aired up with a camper. Maybe a different model tire may require some adjustments compared to your previous set. I broke traction on a dry tight backroad back last summer, possibly coming in a little hot. A slightly overinflated 245 with an empty bed may have caused it at the time.

I have to run 65psi or higher in the rear to keep the damn TPMS sensor light off.
