    Hey all, just bought my truck a couple weeks ago and am loving it so far. Crawled under it today and noticed some black crust, gunk on the driver's side rear shock. Not sure if its just dirt or mud that got trapped from offroading, of if they are just leaking. For a second I almost thought the driver's side shock was different then the passenger's side, since you could hardly see the blue unless you looked really hard or scraped some gunk away. I feel like you can almost see dried up ooze marks, but it might just be coincidence. I am looking at replacements for a smoother ride anyway at some point, but if it turns out that it's leaking I may place that higher on my "thing's to do list". Does anyone like OME Nitrocharger's? They seem to have soft valving which is more what I'm looking for. Anyway, the truck isn't excessively bouncy or anything, but I don't know if I would get that feel anyway because the shocks were designed to be stiff. The truck also has around 76k miles. What are your thoughts?

    Time to upgrade those Hitachis. Find someone who upgraded their TRD OR Bilsteins or level it out with some 5100s. Sorry to hear about the Tundra. That thing was mint.

    Thinking of some shocks. I’ve heard really good things about OME Nitrochargers, and it seems I can get a better ride than the Hitachi’s with the softer valving they offer. 5100’s and 4600’s sound nice, but I don’t think they would change my ride at all, and feel like they would be a little to stiff to me. Any thoughts? Plus the OME’s can support a couple inches of lift if I wanted to in the future…

    Thanks man, I appreciate it. Loved that truck a lot and will definitely still miss it a lot. Definitely a few things about it at least. I think I may be growing to like the taco more tho, besides the the sometimes crappy ride of the blue hitachis lol

    OME and worth every penny.
    I did the OME's at 100K miles (my second set was shot) and they def. were smoother (softer). very much softer. I say were because after 50K miles they felt different, not blown but not good valving on hard bumps. ( Boy, they did when new) They now have 80K miles but since I don't travel highways much nor carry over a couple hundred pounds and certainly not both, I just don't change them out.

    For the money, they were a good shock. Try them.

    edit: BTW the originals and the second set of Rancho (yecch, they felt like a concrete truck) both gave out at 50K miles also.

    Definitely considering them for sure. Hopefully will get around to buying them soon. Did you guys just use the stock coil springs? I don’t see any advantages to upgrade them for normal driving but please correct me if I’m wrong. Same with upgrading the rear springs

    A bunch..and no build thread!
    I did a full OME lift. New springs, shocks and leaf packs along with the driveshaft spacers to correct the pinion angle after lifting the truck. I needed better springs up front due to my bumper and winch along with the full compliment of skid plates and the coming rock sliders. I added a lot of weight with all that. Still have around 2.75 inches of lift from the stock height.

    Hey all, thanks for the info. I decided on some OME Nitrochargers with soft valving. I think they should probably offer quite a bit better ride than the Hitachi's. Any thoughts on them? Also, should I replace the top hat/shock mount bushings, if the truck has around 77k miles on it? Do these go bad at all? Thanks!

    FYI the shock is a Billy 5100 & supposed to be silver.

    Practice mechanical sympathy by airing down your tires a bit on the rough stuff folks.
