When I got my first beeper, it meant I was free to wander about the Commonwealth. I was 'on call' and always had to be around a land line (remember those). I was free, I could go anywhere I wanted, within reason.

    I think I got mine in '91.

Each of my friends had a code they'd add the end of the number they paged me with, so that if they weren't "home", I'd know who the pager was and I'd call them back. I would typically do what those on the down-low did... call back from a pay phone if I was out (which was why they'd page me in the first place...). Hell, I'd even enter a pay phone's phone number and page friends from the pay phone. If the pay phone didn't have a phone number displayed on it, you could dial 958 and the automated system would read back the number you're calling from, so you could enter it into the pager system...

Once I got a Digital PCS phone several years later, bye bye pager...

Never worn anything by these brands. I think the only brand I ever went out of my way for was JNCO. (I also had the unnecessarily long wallet chain too)
