No there's no need to remove the tie rods to change the brake rotors.
You need to remove the caliper and use something to hang it and take care not to damage the steel line or ABS wires.

why would you remove a tie rod to change a brake

theoretically any time you mess with a suspension component an alignment is recommended afterwards

the caliper bolts are loosened. The pads are pried apart with a flathead screwdriver. Any brake fluid that gets forced out the reservoir cap is rinsed with water to prevent rust.
Then, the caliper is free enough (no longer clamping the rotor) to pull off and safely hang out of the way without kinking a brake line.
Might as well rebuild it at the same time.

Should probably go with an upgrade like 4runner 17" calipers, or Stoptech cryo slotted rotors to avoid warping like stock ones can sometimes do
pros and cons. Pros of something like stoptech: bolts on. Cons, you're stuck with it until it wears out, if you change your mind and wanna go 4runner brakes after. Cons of that is, may require other supporting mods, like messing with the booster area of the truck putting a tundra brake master cyl

if at some point you go big heavy wheels tires armor etc, bigger better brakes probably not a bad idea

Brakes are a "critical" safety component and if you need a you tube video as a guide for brake pad and rotor replacement, I suggest that you you seek competent assistance or have it done for you. (my apologies in advance if you have done brake maintenance previously, and have the mechanical skills)

This is why you shouldn't let the shop top off your fluids.. Your brake fluid being "low" is a sign you need to replace your brake shoes/pads/rotors, if you don't have any leaks.

some people extract a bit of fluid from the top of the reservoir during a brake job for that reason

    Remove wheel
    Remove pads
    Remove caliper
    Replace rotor
Replace caliper ( I believe 91 ft/lbs is the spec)
Replace pads (Clean the pad guide pins real good.)
    Replace wheel

    Don’t over complicate it.

My caliper bolts were TIGHT. Took way more than 91 ft/lbs to get them out. A breaker bar would help.

I've done many brake jobs(63 years old) on mostly chevy/gm/fords/kias /honda but first one on the taco. all are basically the same with a few differences. that's why I watched the you tube video and it didn't seem right to need the tie rod end removed. That is why I asked on here. More times then not you guys are polite and knowledgeable. For those of you that were helpful Thank You.

No need to touch the tie rods when doing anything to the front brakes.

5 lug Tacoma's are almost exactly the same as any other vehicle having a caliper, caliper bracket, and rotor.
6 lug trucks are a little different in that they have a 4 piston one piece caliper that has 2 pins holding the pads in and a rigid steel brake line attached to a bracket that has to be unbolted to avoid damage when removing the caliper.

    Hmm . . . none as yet, that's why i'm here . . .
If you have done many brake jobs and you still had to check Youtube, that still leaves me cringing that you are working on any kind of break system. Sorry.
