Has anyone experimented with increasing the tire pressure to get better gas mileage? If so, care to report the results - positive and negative?

    in winter I get 20-21, I drive 90% highway/interstate 60-80mph for an hour and 20 min
in summer I get 21-22, same driving

I also keep oil changed and tires no less than 32psi

I sometimes go off the line faster than needed but that's city driving and I don't pay much attention to city mileage

There's also the trip average and tank average in addition to current

5AB28724-998A-46DD-AA63-6C4CA7A18E0C.jpg To those that say the truck hates anything over 65 mph is correct.

This morning I set the cruise on 69. That is shown on the 2 graphs to the left of the screen. That portion of the highway was basically flat. Then I set the cruise to 65. That is shown on the rest of the screen. That portion of the highway was a mix of flat and hills. So based on this my cruise will max out at 65 as long as I’m paying $4.00 a gallon.

I don't own a single car that has good gas mileage. Taco gets ~14 and the Trans Am gets below 15 from what I've been told (getting it back this summer)

If my tire pressure is border line, i can tell right away my fuel economy drops up to 2 mpg vs if 5 lbs over traveling the same roads at the same average speeds.

I usually get 18-19 mpg. Mostly interstate / highway speeds; half is up and down hills. I've only driven 2000 miles in the past 6 months, but that's normal for me, so the increasing costs of fuel hasn't impacted me much.

In my line of work, power required (and thus energy consumed), is roughly proportional to the square of the speed. So to double the speed, power must be quadrupled.
While this is very true in large ships, it somewhat translates to the motor vehicle.

If you want to go fast, you're gonna pay.

Traveling 70+ mph (110+ km/h) is really only a benefit on LONG trips, where the total time spent traveling may be able to justify the extra fuel spent.

Once again, I am baffled how some of you manage to get such crappy mileage. Do I have the coveted golden ticket?

I filled up today, and not only did I get gas for $0.65 off a gallon (it was advertised for $3.75 at my local Kroger's), but I drove to work and got 20.4 MPG's.

I can eventually get .60 a gallon discount to using my stop&shop grocery card at shell stations here. Doesn't help a hell of a lot when gas is 4.50 a gal.

That .60 off saved me: $12.60 Now, that may be chump change to some, but if you multiply that savings by the number of times I fill up each year (which might be 40), that savings is $504

Savings is Savings. It all adds up my friend.

I got 21.1 mpg on today's 140 mile trip.. Never went above 70. The last 50 miles were at no more than 60.

It's pretty amazing the variety of numbers everyone gets haha. I'm in a 2021 TRD OR DCLB, and it is random for me at times. My commute to work is about 18 miles @65-70 with a couple stop lights. Yesterday I got 14.9 mpg on my way to work, 18.7 mpg on my way home. Today I got 17.7 mpg then 20.3 mpg. This is all computer based numbers though.

    I have a 2in lift and 265/75r16 10ply tires.

Also, I notice that with my Yakima Overhaul HD rack on I loose about 1-2 mpg as well.

I will never understand how some of you guys/gals with 33s are getting 20 mpg going 65-70 mph :annoyed:, show me your ways lol. "What is thy bidding, my master".

Lift and tires excluded, is there a change in elevation between your home and your place of work?
The energy (and this fuel consumed) to lift an object (change is elevation above sea level) is the product of acceleration due to gravity, the mass of the object, and the elevation change. (You get it back coming down, but this could explain the difference between going and coming).

I'm sure I'm there is some kind of slight grade lol, but overall it is flat highway and unnoticeable to the human eye. I feel that most of it is wind related > elevation change truthfully.

Personally I get better mileage coming home from the mountains than I do going up to the mountains.

I never thought it would be significant until this one time I started running low on fuel... My old ride had a 16.5 gallon tank. The 'Low Fuel' light came on, and I was maybe 30 miles from my exit. But those 30 miles result in a 1200 foot climb / change in elevation. The light comes on when there are nominally 2 gallons left in the tank. I was averaging more than 20 mpg, so I thought to myself, "No worries. Plenty left in the tank." So I get off at my exit and fill the tank. It took 16.3 gallons to fill it. I NEVER sucked a tank that dry.

After that trip, I had to factor in the reduced gas mileage when driving into the mountains.
