Help with the uncomfortable driver's seat

The driver's seat in my Taco is just miserable after driving for a while and I'm looking for some kind of seat cushion or at worst a decent replacement seat.

It seems like I saw some comments about how bad the seats in these Tacos suck but I can't seem to locate the thread now. I was hoping the thread went on to some suggestions for a simple fix short of replacement.

Shortly after buying my 2013 used I noticed how the seat was uncomfortable. It just sits low in the rear, puts pressure on the back of my thighs and doesn't take long to start putting me in pain. I've problems with my low back and hips to begin with so the low back part of the seat is bad news.

I found a wedge shaped seat cushion to help lift my hips up when I drive but it has never really fit the seat well. It's to short front to back. I find that after a long day of work and an hour drive home my hips and legs are not happy with the abuse. If I have to drive long distance I take my wife's car which has more comfortable seats but it's not a truck and I feel packed into it.

Has anyone ever found a simple cushion wedge that helps with these things and fits the seat decently? Do most of the Tacoma seats suck or did I just get one previously used by a big guy that beat it down? My previous Tacoma was an 05 and the seat sucked in that one but I loved the truck enough to buy this one so I'm guessing the seats aren't good to begin with.

Do you have the sport seats?
I am 6’4” and don’t find the sport seats in mine all too comfortable on longer drives. But also not sure I have room to spare above my head to use the spacers under the seats

Yes, my truck is the TRD sport version with the standard stock seats so I would assume they are the sport seats. I'm only about 5'10" so I can't be a reference to your head room question.

I was not familiar with these but they look like they would do the job nicely! I asked my wife about her comfort when riding in the truck and she doesn't recall being uncomfortable in the passenger seat but we will probably take the truck this weekend on our usual drives just to be sure. Once I get her feedback I'll decide if I want to do both seats or not.

    Thank You!

My wife HATED the seats in my 2011 even after adding the seat risers. It turned out to be the headrest that was causing her the most discomfort so we took the headrest and turned it around and now she is much happier riding in the truck, now we just thave to worry about whiplash...

Putting the 'Desert Does It' seat jackers in the rear of my 2015 Sport seat was the best thing I've done.....really made a difference immediately. TRY IT!

I know you're not complaining of Tall People Problems but it sounds like your problem with the seat fit is similar to what mine was. I'm a tall guy and put seat jackers under the front of the seats. It gave me more support for the thighs and made sitting back all the way far more comfortable, which in turn made my lower back and neck far more comfortable on longer drives.

I did the same thing on mine, raising the front of the seat helped alot.
Kinda pricey for what they are but the way the front seat mounts are designed it takes a custom spacer to work properly.

I mean different people like different seating positions but it worked for me.
I'm 6' 2" and like a slightly reclined position so it worked well for me.

If you wana test various seat elevations get you a 12mm and 14mm socket and ratchet and unbolt the front and shim it up an inch or so with some peices of wood or something else suitable and see what you think, then do the same thing in the rear and see what suits you.

I wouldn't reccomend driving with the seat unbolted but you can at least sit in it and see how you like it and then get you the apropriate spacers.

I bought seat jackers. Didn’t do much for me like they did for everyone else. What it ultimately took was going to an upholstery place. The guy took a look at my seat and showed me that the foam inside was collapsed. He added new memory foam and built it higher and thicker in the butt and the bolsters. Just picked the seat up yesterday so I can’t attest to my longer drives as of yet. But it feels a lot better. All in all only $160. Go around to some of your local upholstery places and talk to the guys there and see what they say.

The 'Reverse Head Rest Mod' is the first thing I've done in every vehicle I've ever owned that had adjustable headrests.

Also, fun fact, headrests are meant to be removable so, in an emergency, they can be used as a device for breaking auto glass so you can escape.

I'm 6'3" and 210lbs. My 2013 seats were OK condition wise, but just didn't give me proper support. I commute 50miles one way to work. Tried various positions, even extra cushion... just could not hit a happy median.

Thinking about what my real issue was (marshmallow like support), i decided to try new covers. Found good deal a set of Katzkin leather covers on ebay. What a big improvement they have made. Really night and day difference. The increase in positive, firm support did it for me. I made no changes to factory foam as it was still in great shape with little to no collapse of foam.

The big test was an 800 mile in a day round trip road trip. Yes, I was sore from sitting all day. But no more so than my 50 mile commute pre-covers.

Same results likely with less costly covers used for seat protection.

I know I have the wrong generation but I have to say I completely understand. I’m on my third Tacoma and this is a fourth GEN. The seat is just absolutely miserable, uncomfortable and difficult to deal with. I don’t even have 1000 miles on mine yet and the Lombard support thing is already popping and cracking like it’s broken. I can’t say that my third Jen‘s were all that great either, but they were at least comfortable enough that I didn’t notice these little things. The seats are also low enough that the seatbelt is in a weird position now.

The seat jackers seemed, at first, unlikely to help.
    They do, quite a bit.
I have noticed a huge difference in longer drives, both in comfort and ease of working the pedals.
Cheap investment for possible big reward.

    Yeah
Problem the seat jackers are not the right fit for the new gen Tacoma. Trust me, I’ve looked into it. A LOT lol
