Thanks so much for stopping in and sharing your thoughts about how OTT is working out for you! Without the support of our tuners and folks like you, the Toyota tuning market not be what it is today. It really is a treat we have the many options available from the various tuners. Gives you the ability to find something that fits your unique needs. So thank you for your willingness to give OTT your trust.

@Bagelmobile: if you feel like your throttle setting isn't 100% to your liking be sure to let us or your tuner know. We have options, and if something custom is in order, we can work with you on that. It's important to us you get what you need.

I mentioned to my tuner about offering an “S” shape sort of throttle feed for the manual trucks. I’d like to try something that has a very easy feed for the first say 7-9% for easy city driving, and good highway manners while cruising (not sure how deep the accelerator is while cruising at 70-75) and then sweep into a more aggressive setting where you want to have the meat when you need it to pick up quickly, and then it can sign off the last say 10% because really there isn’t a need to push that deep into the pedal anyway.. those percentages are just a guess and not an accurate idea.. it helps to not have a choppy or snatchy feel especially if in low range and off roading.

It's been 3 weeks since I got the tune. I must say driving is much better and more enjoyable than stock. Major improvements: 1. No moore sluggish start, it basically feels more powerful at low speed, it just pulls. 2. No more awkward shifting when up and down the hill. Thanks for the tune @dave82at

I have a 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road Premium and have gone to David (Yota Tune) in Burlington, Ontario three times to get my truck tuned. The Overlander (OTT7) Tune is by far the smoothest, most torque, best fuel efficient I've found and eliminates gear hunting making the trucks' transmission run like how it should have been from the factory. I had the KDMax tune prior to this one and found that is was jerky, the gears would hang on too long and I knew there was room for improvement. Mind you, my throttle response is the non-aggressive one because the aggressive is too jerky and aggressive for my liking. I look forward to the updates for the Overlander (OTT7) tune and will be going back to get the latest version of it whenever possible.

HRC4 - Depending on the configuration of your truck - It's weight, tire size, gearing, and amount of drag present will all factor into the equation. There's also some environmental factors at play such as density altitude, slope/grade, etc. that provide some external influence to where someone may be with pedal input to maintain a given highway speed. Lots of variables!

Sounds like you're looking for something akin to a logistic growth curve that I'm familiar with..
    Capture.jpg

What you're looking for is pretty easily accomplished in the calibration but it's a very slippery slope to put into practice for for the masses. As the variables mentioned above mean many folks require vastly different pedal percentages to maintain their preferred cruising speed. Configuring the "ramp-up" in throttle application too close to the cruising pedal percentage will cause the truck to have a tendency to surge forward anytime additional speed is required or as you approach an incline making the truck potentially jerky when cruising at speeds slightly above your typical cruising speed. Configuring the ramp-up point too far out will largely defeat the purpose of what you're looking for in addition to making the progressiveness of the throttle very steep meaning any pedal input within the ramp-up area will likely be very sensitive/touchy.

There are also fueling considerations to factor in, as for many (especially during difficult times) fuel economy is an important consideration for many and this type of throttle mapping would have some adverse affects.

One critical performance metric OTT has been committed too, is development of a throttle mapping strategy that is consistent and predictable with how the throttle is controlled. While our auto offerings are not quite as progressive as what you're looking for, if it's something you absolutely feel you need - we can work on something for you.

I'm thinking they're asking for that curve because it mimics a drive by cable setup.

@HRC4, is that your intention? If so, it's a fairly simple calculation to achieve for sure, but you would need to keep in mind that other maps can affect how far the throttle opens. Even though it's set to open at 50% per the 2D throttle maps, other maps may limit it to 40%.

@JustDSM Yes I’m sure there are an infinite number of variables to consider that is way over my head here. My thinking here is the beginning portion of the throttle to have an instant reaction but with a slow input. Any bump on a road in a direct drive truck especially in a lower gear makes for a choppy and snatchy drive that requires a constant effort to control. An auto truck gets the benefit of the torque converter and a taller rear ratio to feather out any throttle jolting. Our roads up in Canada are a disaster from frost heaving and municipalities not caring to repair them, so we all seriously need an off road truck to get around these days haha. I was also thinking the same thing once up to highway cruising speeds, that economy might be slightly better if there was less “involuntary reaching” into the throttle if it was over sensitive.. I am on the light setting now, and couldn’t imagine what the aggressive would be like to drive, especially in low range on a rough trail! I do miss the old cable trucks that reacted instantly to the input when playing off road, it’s tougher to bump up over things when the truck responds a second late.

@ktbell444 yes I would love a drive by cable feel. It’s the only real way to be able to drive a manual truck, well, like a manual truck.

This tune cannot be beat for big heavy trucks, as one can assume from the “Overland” name.
    82035515-CEE0-48C8-808A-5825FCD43C71.jpg

But assuming it’s only for big heavy trucks is a mistake. Stock and mildly modified trucks see huge gains, AT and MT options are both strong.

4.0L tunes done with HPTuners are equally incredible.

This Overland Tailor family of tunes is unmatched. Lots of other tunes making noise, but Overland Tailor just quietly getting the job done and making people happy. There is something to their data driven process.

If you are in Utah and want to test these tunes, please reach out and I am happy to put this family of tunes against any other tune on the market.

    Cool.

    Couple questions... one is subjective...

First, will I have an issue with cruise control?

Second, while I have OV2.0, and it is MUCH better than stock, I live in a hilly area, so, it still hunts a little... hell, cannot even hit 6th on the highway @80..

What is the verdict from those that live in hilly/mountainous areas, and run other tunes?
