1.1 setting. Stock suspension. Rides great! Was concerned that it would be harsh. Not the case at all. Handles better. Looks much better.

How long have you had this setup? Just wondering what the life is like of the 5100’s, reliability and all that. Currently have a Sport and wouldn’t mind softening it up a bit, hoping these would be a happy medium between the OR and Sport shocks.

The list is long but distinguished
I have about 5k mi on mine and feel the ride is nice though a small bit firmer over the stock OR Bilstein's. I am at .65 in the front on stock springs and no rear lift for now. On road I run the stock Wrangler tires and the ride is perfect. Off road I'm on 235/85 r16 Falken Wildpeak MT01 and I feel the 5100's have just the right amount of firmness and stability.

I have only had mine on for probably a month but was in a similar situation to you with a Sport. The right definitely improved and the truck feels like it takes bumps better than the stock front Sport suspension did. I am planning to eventually do aftermarket coils and AAL in the back but am going to run this setup for as I am very happy with it then once I get bored do more. I had the shop put mine on 1.1" setting and sits perfectly level to me. Sitting on 265/70r17 for reference.

So I know this is an old thread.. but this is exactly what I’m looking to do with my truck. How many of you put a spacer on the driver side for the taco lean? Or the ECGS bushing?

From what I have read with stock springs you *might*not need a spacer on Drivers side but if you run aftermarket springs you can have the clip one notch higher on drivers side according to Bilstein specs. Might not be a bad idea to do ECGS bushing swap while you have it apart. Some are fine and some are not, but its easier to do it while doing the suspension rather than tearing back apart later.

4Runners suffer from the same drivers side lean, when I lifted my old 4runner I used factory coils from a FJ and had to make sure I kept the springs for the correct side. The factory drivers side spring is set to account for battery and gas tank weight on that side cant remember if slight longer or slightly thicker but there is a difference.

good deal! Thanks for all the info. It helped a lot. Watching videos of these ECGS bushing installs freaks me out! I can do a lot of stuff on a car/truck but those kind of jobs are what gets me.

From what I gather, having the tool is pretty important, and you may be able to borrow or buy used form someone on here. I have not looked into it much yet as I will probably run my truck stock until warranty is out/need a suspension refresh. upper end Bilstein shocks are in the running for what I will go with though. I don't like the idea of having to maintain/rebuild Kings, Fox etc and they would really be overkill for my needs. I put 5100s with FJ coils on my 4Runner and was pretty happy with them. I'd advise staying with a lighter tire though unless you really need a thick sidewall the load range E TKOIIs I put on my 4runner were a lot of un-sprung weight and affected gas mileage, acceleration and stopping power noticeably.

Good advice! I bought mine certified pre owned so I have the 6 or 7 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty so not sure what I’m going to do 100% yet. Guess I could always check with my dealer and see what they say.. somehow I feel I already know the answer. 5100s are the way I’ll go for sure cause I’m with you, no sense in getting stuff rebuilt or anything crazy all the time. 5100s are impossible to find right now. I think as far as tires go I’ll stick to my 265/75/16’s which is already a jump from what my stock sr5’s were.

I noticed no ride difference at all in the different spring perch setting on the 6112s.

Basically for warranty exclusion, the non OEM part would need to be able to be tied to the OEM component failure. So if you did a lift and had issues with ball joints, CV joints, etc they might try to deny a claim. It would be a hard sell to try to associate an engine or electrical issue to a simple shock change lift... Pros and Cons. The 5100s were firm but not too firm on my 4 Runner. It did ride a bit rougher when I added the E load range tires, but I got them cheap and never had another soybean stalk poke through a sidewall. You are not going to have the same performance as an upper end shock, but that's why they don't cost as much. Still an improvement over stock. My 4Runner was a sport and had cross linked X-Areas suspension that started to leak so I needed a change. 5100s Eliminated body roll almost completely.

I feel like .65” (second setting) is ideal if you’re not going to lift the rear. That’s what I plan to do with my stock 2021 Tacoma sr5 4x4. If I ever add weight to the back, I won’t get a bogged down look. Some of the pics of trucks at .65 in this post look good. IMO

Would .65 be one setting above stock/0" ?
Also, anyone have a current link/deal suggestion for the 5100's?

The softness is determined by the spring rate of your coils! Not the shock!
    Shocks control rebound!
Only way you can over preload a shock so it affects the ride quality? Is the shock needs to be preloaded so much that the weight of the truck cannot compress the coils! Which can happen with insert spacers like ToyTec.
Bilstein 5100's are designed to do this so no worries about that.
