Does it matter if the resonator is in front or behind the muffler? Just thinkin back to my WK HEMI with the gibson cat back and it had a resonator behind the muffler.

 

Your under-carriage is cleaner than the exterior of many, including some I've seen at car shows! Well done, my friend!

 

It’s all about the fluid film for the winter. It keeps the salt from sticking and completely prevents corrosion. I just purchased a new power washer yesterday as well so now I’ll really be able to stay on top of it.

 

The majority of setups I've seen in OE configurations put resonators before mufflers.

 

Since I kept the cats then it means the manifolds were the most restrictive part from stock since just changing that to headers it means stock manifolds are more restrictive than cats rights?

 

My resonator is after the muffler. The resonator is just a small muffler, no magic there. I don’t think it matters which muffler goes first.

 

Throughs on single vs dual afr bands?

I plan to run OE headers and y-pipe for the time being.

 

Duals are better for obvious reasons, but I ran a single for 10 years and was at least happy to have that. I installed upstream of the cats in the stock collector pipe. It’s dual wall there, so you have to open the shield up enough to weld the bung in place. I clocked it to be accessible from the passengers wheel well. I was happy with that position.

 

I made "magic" happen before my resonator, in my exhaust that I built on my E36. Being that it went from dual 1 7/8" tubes into a lead weight muffler, to a 3"single tube, I knew it would need some "magic" to help. I want sooo badly to share what I did, but simultaneously I want to keep it secret, for that "just in case" time.

Never have I heard an E36 or straight 6, sound like this. Without trying to sound conceited, @BassAckwards may agree.

I would have to do testing on other vehicles, with a before and after test, to see if it truly did make the resonator work, and muffler (since mine are both straight through) work more efficiently. Before I say, "Hey try this!"

I was thinking of a dual band for the obvious reasons to see both banks.
If so I’ll probably put in the same spot(s) as you.
Is there any point to run them (or a single once the y merges) after the cats?
I’d think that the cats would change any useful number.

 

I haven’t heard a straight six sound like that either. It definitely sounds healthy! Burbly too when letting off the gas. Not too loud either, just right imo.

@JuanitoBunito in lieu of cats, you may consider swapping out your resonators for a couple of straight through mufflers. They will bring the volume down a little more than the resonators from what I’ve found on my truck.

 

Installing them down stream of the cats would be a complete waste of effort for sure.

This is exactly what I will being doing for my next iteration. A pair of full size vibrant mufflers both with offsets for more reflections along the way.

Is everyones nst alt pulley shorter and smaller in diameter then the oem? Mine is shorter and about 4mm smaller diameter where the belt rides.

 

It’s probably more important to measure the offset from the back side to ensure they ride in the same position.
Unless that is the back side?

 

Yes that is the side that goes in against the alt.

 

it looks like all will line up once the base of the new pulley is flush. I have been running mine with no issues for a while.

 

I’m definitely looking into the maggy xmod performance muffler and keeping my current one and one resonator.

 

Mine has a very small difference between the OE pulley as well. It hasn't been an issue or caused noises but it did sort of get me paranoid for a little bit until I got over it.

You should be okay. Worst comes to worst keep your OE one and if you need to swap it back then at least you'll still have it and it's pretty easy and fast to do.
