Well that looks like it might answer some questions.... great post pb! I would love to see if thats what mine is doing, unfortunately i dont have a camera i can mount under my truck. I know thats not your truck since you have the tom woods drive shaft, where did you get that vid from?

 

The bearing assy is doing what it is supposed to do; support d/shaft. It is mounted in a rubber mount, and that is what is flexing, but it is flexing from the driveshafts input and angle and looks a little excessive, but it is not caused by a bad bearing/bearing assy.

 

It's some guys truck on TTORA. I don't know him.

 

If the driveshaft is supposed to vibrate like that then what about the stock 1-piece driveshaft on regular cab Tacomas? They don't vibrate. Just because my truck is longer it's OK for the driveshaft to vibrate? That doesn't seem right to me. Why not just make a longer 1-piece driveshaft? I'm open to any ideas or theories, but from what I've seen, buying an aftermarket 1-piece driveshaft has solved the vibe problems of about 90% of Tacoma owners that try it.

 

Do the stock tacomas have a vibration problem? Or is this only after lift kits are added?

If you're saying 10% of the people who tried the one piece driveshaft and it didn't work...... What did they end up doing?

 

Alot of stock tacos have the vibration problem.

 

This is on my "to do" list if Toyota doesn't fix my 68-72 MPH vibration.

No, the driveshaft is not supposed tovibrate that badly, but the bearing is not the cause.

 

Ya know - I thought I knew what axle wrap was, but now I think I am confusing myself.

Can you do me a favor and explain exactly what axle wrap is?

The torque during acceleration is making the driveshaft want to lift up, and the carrier bearing is allowing it. Axle wrap won't make a DS move that much.

A 1-piece driveshaft should fix most of the vibration. A traction bar could fix any remaining issues.

That's an awesome video! The drive shaft on my 2001 Tacoma prerunner has been driving me crazy ever since I bought it last year. I recently found out that the carrier bearing could be causing it, and now after seeing the video I'm convinced that this is what's wrong with mine. I just hope that after replacing the bearing the vibration will go away. I can't afford to replace the shaft. the bearing alone is $130. (my rubber insert on the bearing has a lot of movement when I push up in the shaft.)

 

yes the stock Tacoma's do vibrate. I heard the newer ones more than the older. After some more research I found the problem is in the drive shafts on these newer trucks.

if you need a set.....i can make a set for you and ship/mail them to you. i have some extra aluminum at work. send a pm to jolayiv...........i made a set for him, and they seemed to work pretty well on his 2nd gen tacoma. its basically the same thing as the ome kit......but you can use the bolts that you already have on the carrier bearing.
