Love the cat straddle napping across the tool bag and CV axle box hahaha. You must be much faster than I am--took me a long while to do LBJ and CVs a month or so ago. The hard part for me was just getting the four LBJ bolt holes to line up with the underside of the steering knuckle. And also coaxing the CV axle into the front differential without feeling like I was forcing it. Feels good when it's done though!

Yeah, it is odd that it was both passenger side breaks. My driver's side one wasn't snapped but the ball joint was frozen so it wasn't moving around at all. Much improved after replacing both of them. The damn things are like $130 a piece though for the OEM ones, which is a little nuts considering the OEM upper ball joints are very similar and only cost like $50 apiece.

Alright... doing valve cover gaskets and friends and learned my trucks diet has apparently been more than it should have. Shits super dirty.

Is there a way to clean beyond the lower plenum... that isn't crazy involved? (Need to have it back together by Monday lol)

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
If you don't have heat shield under your hood, this is what happens to vinyl after a year and a half, or so.

    20220326_125139.jpg

Wasn't cheap vinyl either. It was top shelf 3M vinyl.

So... to fix this... I yanked my hood back off, peeled the vinyl off and hit it with an entire can of Raptor Liner.

It wont be shrinking again lol.

I’m afraid to conquer that. Did the old ones leave marks in the paint?

Don’t mess with the lower unless you are gonna clean injectors and get new o rings. Also, that knock sensor harness can be temperamental and it’s under that intake. Just wipe what you can w a rag and put it back together.

Not really, used a heat gun, a plastic scraper and a lot of goo gone. You could definitely see where the old sticker was cause the paint beneath was shinier / less faded, but no scratches or anything - made setting the new sticker easier I guess

Some very interesting things have happened to many on the passenger side front that suggest that the structural design has an influence on components.

Keep an eye on your passenger shock tower and lower shock mounts on the A-arm. All of the documented shock tower failures that I am aware of have happened on the passenger side.

Ok I didn't mess with it. Felt like it was beyond me. Don't like to mess with what I don't know. That's how problems happen haha

Entire top end is almost back together. New rubber and all cleaned (after 5 cans of parts cleaner and one throttle body cleaner can)

I can't wait to see the difference. It was very apparent she needed some love.

Well, went to replace my LBJ's yesterday. Got the driver's side up, wheel off, popped off the tie-rod end with the nifty HF two-jaw puller I bought (the O'Reilly's rental puller didn't fit around the lower control arm). It was a bitch to get those jaw tips beneath the dust boot but I managed. However, when I started to torque the center bolt the entire tool began to tilt off-axis and insisted on doing so no matter how much I tried to adjust it. Thank God I kept the receipt because these sorry excuses for tools are going back to the store. Lesson learned, HF is a crap-shoot and you get what you pay for. Going to shop this coming week for a set of quality pullers.

Impulse red pearl is the best color

I've got a bit more accent black going on though.

Everything below the body line, on the side, and the fender flares, is Raptor lined, the entire roof, and now the majority of the hood.

I figure, about 30% of the truck is now Raptor lined lol.

You want a pitman puller. Not a bearing puller.

Go back to o reilyes, they have one you can rent. But for $15 I'd just buy it. Handy tool for tie rods too.

This is what @Blackdawg is referring to. Definately want to get one if you're doing front end stuff on these trucks.

The only one they had to rent was too small to fit around the lower control arm.

I'm just going to order the same OTC kit that Timmy suggested.

Harbor Frieght also has this one now. Looks to be the same as the OTC set. Probably not the same quality as OTC, but would definately be servicable for limited use of a do it yourselfer. And I'm sure it's considerably less expensive than OTC.

The big (hinged) one appears to be the size that would make it better for the upper ball joint too. And it has the same one as the $15 single puller in the set.
