    Some people eat them….

They are considered to be edible if parboiled to remove toxins and psychoactive if eaten raw, with a documented history of northern peoples around the world (and their reindeer) eating them

I’ve never messed with them, I prefer morels chanterelles and p. cubensis lol

Weirdest thing to date was way back in college days. A geology field trip, we were given three days to map out a roughly 5 sq mile area of wilderness. (Then two more days to write the report and receive grade, then two days to move camp to the next spot, rinse, repeat.)

This one was parowan gap, southern Utah. I found this little shrine on a low rise, well away from any trail. Excuse the early 2000's digital photo technology. It was impressive. Intricate faces were carved into the driftwood. The pottery hand held ashes of something unknown.

Then on a different hill we found this little model village

    191 mud hut.jpg

The freaky part was when it dawned on us the exact location of that first shrine. A classmate noticed that standing there made the sun set directly into the area's namesake gap. Naturally this could only happen during certain times of the year, and another classmate observed that our last day to be there was the day of the solstice.

... We all made sure to be mapping other parts of the valley that day.

I happened across an outbreak of chanterelles last summer. Can’t find the pic now but there was at least 50+ of them. I don’t like mushrooms but like the umami flavor of them cooked with stuff. Did my fair share of tea back in the day and hands down the best high. Living next to a small cattle farm made for east pickings once the salt blocks were removed.
