Hi eveyone! I have a problem I can’t put into words. I’d like some help.

On occasion when I try to put my truck in first from neural it goes in gear but I release the clutch and it doesn’t move. It feels like it’s stuck in the mud. If I pump the clutch it will go the next time. When this happens, the rear back up sensor will beep as if something is behind me if I back up. This only happens randomly. If I release the back up sensor my truck will go in gear and move no problem. I cannot make my truck do this. It does it whenever it feels like it. I had it towed to the dealership and they couldn’t get it to do it or find anything wrong with the sensor. I have taken a video of when it happened which doesn’t help but it shows the sensor beeping and my truck not doing anything but stalling.
I hope someone can help me put this problem into words.

it’s been to the dealer for it 2 times both times they said my clutch was fine.

It’s making me long for my 03 back

Sounds like you are pushing the shifter too far to the left and tripping the switch that makes the head unit beep when you shift to reverse. You’re shifting but the shifter is getting caught and bouncing back to neutral. Try aiming a little further right for first gear.

As @OpelGT mentioned, you may be accidentally shifting the transmission into reverse and not completely engaging the gear. If you aren’t paying attention or in a hurry it is possible to do. There is a detent between first and reverse, maybe sit in the truck and move the shifter around to get used to the feel.

I had a Corolla XRS before my Tacoma. It had a 6MT with the gate pattern ( first vehicle with reverse in the left and up position). I would constantly throw that into reverse when going for first. Drove me nuts. I got used to it after a while. I haven't had that same issue in the Tacoma. The detents are better.

The issue is, mechanically the reverse beep can not be activated in any other gear but reverse. And the clutch is a different mechanical system as well. Even though they are associated they all work mechanically separate from each other...

I mean I’ve done too several times when the truck was new to me. There is really no other explanation. The transmission and clutch are fully mechanical systems and will work even if every other part of the truck missing.
