After lots of thinking, I'm planning to get new shocks and the Icon leaf pack. I'm schedule at a local shop but they can't get me in in time for an about 2800-3000 mile trip. Whenever I go camping my butt is sagging a bit and on this trip I'll have a small trailer and a bunch of stuff (moving my daughter back home).

Weight-wise, I'm mostly stock right now but I have a camper shell. With the trailer tongue weight and gear, plus people and a big dog I'm guessing I'll be around 1000 lbs, maybe a bit more. Not overloaded, but with just camping gear, passengers and shell it sags enough that it's annoying and really annoying on a long trip.

So, I was thinking I could just put in an AAL for now and then the full shocks and leaf pack upgrade when I get back. I can probably do this myself but I'd need to rent a jack. Edit: after looking into this a bit more I don't think this is something I'd be comfortable taking on with the tools I have.

Or, assuming I can find an Icon pack and someone to do the work, I could just get the Icons installed. Will these work with the stock TRD OR shocks on Option 2 setting? Or even Option 1 if that's sufficient for my load.

Or is there something I'm overlooking? Airbags seem overkill as I doubt I really need or want those long term and they are expensive. I don't know if Sumo springs would really address this issue.

    Thanks.

Thanks. After a bit more reading I'm thinking the Sumo Springs might be a possible solution, but since they aren't something I really want long term it's probably a waste of a couple hundred dollars. Maybe I can resell them on Craigslist for find some used ones.

I think just getting the Icon leaf pack installed might be the best option assuming one of the local shops has time before I leave. Seems most places are pretty booked up.

Thanks. That might be worth it. I'm not sure how to figure out which ones I need but the blue ones probably would be fine. I wish I could find more info on how much sag/drop I'd get with various loads.

I would buy sumo springs and then resell on here when done. Wouldn’t lose much money on them and would certainly make the trip more bearable. Easy enough to install yourself too.

PM if interested. Blue ones are the lighter option of the two, latest Tacoma version. I ended up w/ 5100s and 3LAAL after buying the sumos on impulse.

So I'm going to give the Sumos a try (thanks Gone Fishin'). I'm curious if anyone has any tips or advice. Based on my research I'm expecting them to be a bit more stiff, but for this particular use I suppose that's fine.

Ultimately, this is pretty much my plan. How much lift did you get/want in the rear? I want to compensate for the weight of the shell and do a bit better with weight. How do you like the setup? Any particular things you noticed pro or con?

Just got the h/w this weekend so still in my living room but I'll let you know - hope to have it built in next two weeks. stock ORAC, with cap and sliders I am down to about 1/2" rake as best I can tell, though it looks level - hoping to get to about 1" to 1.5" rake with the 'always' load so I'll set on bottom clip for 1" or so front (maybe a bot more for AC), 1.5 in back from 3LAAL (starting with OL leaf out) - then adjust further if necessary. when packed out I probably have at least another 200 pounds back there. I waited quite a while as OR ride ain't bad - just a bit soft for my tastes for DD and anything but very slow crunchies.
