Both of my sons set in my lap and drove post seat belt laws, grandson too. The first time I got pulled over I was 13. In a 64 Chevy Impala, I had took the exhaust manifold off and didn't have a gasket to put it back on so I drove it to town with no manifold. It was crazy loud, the county pulled me over and made me call someone to come get me and the car, lol

Getting old sucks! I woke up with severe back pain and went to the chiropractor. This is my X-ray. I am 2 years since c6-c7 fusion in my neck. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed without surgery.

My dad and uncle farmed 75 to 125 acres every summer, I was driving the hay truck and tractor at 10 too. They use to let me turn and disk all of it but they always planted it, said the rows had to be straight, hell I could drive straighter than they could.
One summer I got home from school every day and jumping on the tractor. One day I got off the bus and jumped on the tractor. the field right behind our house had dirt piled up all over about three acers. I thought my brother or cousins one had been turning and made a mess. I hooked up the disks and smoothed out what I thought was a mess. Right as I got finished my dad came out and ask me what the hell I was doing. I told him someone had made a mess and I fixed it. He told me my uncle and him had spent all day with a middle buster plow making potato beds and had planted potato slips. I looked across the field and could see the potato slips every where. They had used the tractor and chained a plow that used to be used behind a mule to turn the land. My Uncle drove the tractor and dad held the plow. It turned dirt and piled it up about 8 to 10 inches to the left side so when they got to the end of the field they would turn around and pile another 8 to 10 inches of dirt on top of what they had just did, so two passes to make one row and that plow was hard to steer straight. They made the rows about 10 feet apart over 3 acres, it took them all day and I flattened it in 30 minutes. We didn't have potatoes that year and it took years for my brother and cousins to forget about that. Every time plowing or potatoes were mentioned someone would always bring that up.

I used to love the last time we picked corn every season because you got to run over the stalks with the tractor and trailer instead of walking and picking through the rows. :mudding:

    Good morning!

    From AlabamaWX

DRY PATTERN CONTINUES: We continue to forecast dry through through early next week across Alabama… with a partly sunny sky today we expect a high in the mid 60s. Look for a good supply of sunshine over the weekend; the high tomorrow will be in the mid 60s, but closer to 60 Sunday. The coldest morning will come early Sunday with lows in the 30s across about the northern half of Alabama. Frost is likely, and colder spots will see another late season freeze.

NEXT WEEK: The weather will be warmer… we rise into the low 70s Monday, followed by low to mid 80s Tuesday and Wednesday for a summer preview. Then, a vigorous spring system will bring rain and thunderstorms back to the state Wednesday night into Thursday morning. SPC has western counties of Alabama in a severe weather risk in their “Day 6” outlook for this event.

For now, it looks like the main window for rain and storms will come from about 6:00 p.m. Wednesday through 9:00 a.m. Thursday. Thankfully this will be coming at a time when instability values are low (late night/early morning), but storms still could be strong to severe with the main threat coming from strong winds. We will be much more specific on this threat over the next few days. Dry air returns to the state Thursday afternoon into Friday… See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

ON THIS DATE IN 1901: At least 15 people were killed by an estimated F3 tornado that moved across parts of Birmingham. The twister cut a 15-mile path from the south side of the city to Avondale and Irondale.

ON THIS DATE IN 2021: Eleven tornadoes touched down across Alabama; some of them were long track. The most stunning tornado of the event was the long track EF-3 tornado that carved a path of damage spanning 80.38 miles over its 98 minute lifespan from Hale to Shelby Counties. This was a single tornado, putting it at #7 for the longest single tornado track in the state of Alabama.

Six people were killed by an EF-3 tornado that was down for 38 miles through parts of Calhoun and Cherokee counties. Another EF-3 tornado touched down near West Blocton, and then moved through some highly populated neighborhoods in north Shelby County. Damage was severe in neighborhoods like Eagle Point, Greystone Farms, and Shoal Creek. This tornado was down for 50 miles, and there were five injuries

Coming along pretty well. Still gotta chop the brackets, add a few more supports, and do the final welds

    Good Morning

    From AlabamaWX

NICE WARM-UP TODAY: With a good supply of sunshine, we project a high around 70 degrees this afternoon across Alabama, right at seasonal averages for late March. Then, we reach the low 80s tomorrow with a partly sunny sky as the warming trend continues. Wednesday will be a warm, windy day with a high in the low to mid 80s, followed by a band of strong to severe thunderstorms late in the day into Wednesday night.

SPC has defined an “enhanced risk” (level 3/5) for much of West Alabama with this event, for areas west of a line from Haleyville to Birmingham to Jackson. A “slight risk” (level 2/5) is for areas as far east as Huntsville, Montgomery, and Andalusia, and the eastern counties are in a “marginal risk” (level 1/5).

This will be another system with very impressive wind fields and kinematic energy, but the thermodynamics are a bit “iffy” with limited instability. Similar to the system we experienced last week. Most likely the storms will come through in linear fashion.

TIMING: The line of severe storms will likely enter West Alabama late in the afternoon, in the 5:00-6:00 time frame, then sweeping eastward Wednesday night. Storms could linger after midnight over the eastern counties, but they will be weakening at that time. The main window for the I-65 corridor will be from 7pm to midnight.

THREATS: The main concern will come from damaging winds with the line of storms. Winds could exceed 60 mph in spots, and we can’t rule out a couple of tornadoes within the line as well, with the higher severe weather probabilities over the western half of the state. Some hail is possible, but is not expected to be widespread.

GRADIENT WIND: Non-thunderstorm winds could gust to 40/45 mph at times Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night before the storm arrives. Higher gusts will be on the ridges.

FLOODING: Rain amounts of 1-2 inches are likely, and with the saturated soil conditions some flooding problems could develop. We don’t expect the 5-6 inch totals like we had last week with the storms over East Alabama.

Events like this are common in Alabama during March and April. Simply have two reliable ways of learning severe weather warnings (NOAA Weather Radio, and emergency alerts on your phone), and a plan of action if you are “in the polygon”. In your safe place have helmets for everyone, and if you live in a mobile home, know the nearest shelter location, and how to get there quickly.

REST OF THE WEEK AND THE WEEKEND: Look for a clearing sky Thursday with a high around 70. Then, we expect the dry weather to continue on Friday and over the weekend with mostly sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. Highs will be in the 68-72 degree range, with lows mostly in the 40s. Colder spots could see 30s early Friday morning.

NEXT WEEK: Dry weather continues Monday and Tuesday… global models suggest the next round of rain and storms will come Wednesday (April 6)… See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

ON THIS DATE IN 1920: Twenty people were killed by a tornado, estimated at F4 strength, that moved through Elmore, Tallapoosa, and Chambers counties in East Alabama. The greatest destruction was in Tallapoosa County in the vicinity of Susanna, Agricola, and Red Ridge. The tornado was on the ground for over 65 miles.

ON THIS DATE IN 1963: A decision was handed down in the case of Whitney Bartie vs. the United States of America. Bartie sued the U.S. Weather Bureau for negligence in failing to provide a warning about Hurricane Audrey in 1957. Bartie’s wife and five children were killed after the 12-foot storm surge struck Cameron Parish, LA on the morning of June 27, 1957. It was ruled that the evidence presented did not establish negligence on the part of the Weather Bureau.
