Any pointers or ideas for secondary security?

 

Anyone have a velocirax? And hang a ebike from it?

looking to get one or something like it for my rav4. The tacoma is cool for a few buddies but lately i been going with larger groups and a car that can carry us more comfy will be nice lol

 

I don't but I live down thes treet from where they're sold out of. So we see a TON of them around town. I've seen all sorts of bikes hanging from them. The velocirax is rated for 55 lbs per slot which most ebikes will be under that with some coming pretty close. I bet you if you remove the battery on any of the mountain e-bikes then you'll be able to hang them on the velocirax without a problem.

 

It was very warm this week. I'm sure I'm not the only Utahn on this thread that got out riding like crazy!

 

Most seem to go with a cable or chain that can secure the bike frame and wheels to the rack and/or truck frame.

 

Ughh.. I really wanted to run a Terror Sled this weekend, but I finally moved into our home. I'm so sore...

 

Been looking at other alternatives to carry my bike in the truck bed and pulled the trigger on the Thule Insta-Gater Pro - bike is very secure when it's all set up and it checks almost all my boxes. Unfortunately I may need another one in time if I want to drive around with the mountain bike and the gravel bike - but for now this will definitely suffice. Going to keep me from getting more frame scratches and leaves the hitch free for pulling the camper.

 

Got a bunch of miles on the G-bike Friday, and was planning to ride on Saturday right until the home improvement gods frowned on me.

 

my setup for security on my 1up. wheel locks. really long steel cable that I can run through the front wheel and then the rearwheel through the rear triangle then it is u-locked to a ring on my truck. if multiple bikes, i lock the frames together with my kryptonite chain lock. if single bike, I route the chain through my frame and onto part of the 1up.

essentially, any attacker would have to get through 3 different and separate lock systems to even get a single bike. It takes a little time to actually lock things together but it's worth the effort IMO. Of course, the other best thign to do is do your best to keep your bikes and truck in sight.

Annnnnnnd three weeks later, I'm on a Revel.

New (to me) 2021 Revel Rascal. Got lucky with a local deal, so I swapped over all the parts from my Spur to a Rascal frame. Soooooo stoked!

 

Rode some trails in Petaluma, CA over the weekend while visiting friends.



Also, the last of the parts I’ve been waiting on for my AXS gravel build finally came in. Going to try to finish building it up this week.

Need a comparison review between the Ranger / Spur.

Shit, I meant to type Rascal, not Ranger - not sure what my brain was thinking. The Rascal is their 140/130 bike, so can't really compare. I just didn't have the skill to use the Spur's limited 120/120 travel in some situations, so went looking for a bit more travel to keep me out of trouble.

I'm selling the Spur frame+fork. Currently have an offer for $3700 from a dude on Pinkbike, but I'm not convinced that's a done deal yet. Do you know anyone who might be interested?

Honestly dude I’m even more interested in hearing feedback now that I know it’s a Rascal. That’s a more appealing model to me personally than the Ranger.

I might have been open to a new to me frame. Just for this shits and giggles of trying something new. If that offer is legit jump on it. I can only swing bro deal pricing, not current market pricing.


My Following is such a fun bike. Fits my style and local tracks very well. No reason to change, other than for the sake of change. I too wouldn’t be opposed to a little more travel for my daily driver, but really can’t justify having much more than a 140-150 bike as a daily.

Definitely on the smaller side, but has some great views.
I also found some trails across the street from there that had a few small jumps and steep downhills that were fun.

 

That's a good idea, have been thinking about the great utility of a front receiver for a while.
I have a Pelfrey aluminum front bumper and I'm not a welder so it wouldn't be something I could do myself.
Was thinking of something more DIY/ bolt-on.
Kindof surprised this isn't more of a thing. Camping/ biking trips invariably need some bike maint and having a clean, easy workstation that doesn't add another thing (workstand) that you have to pack would be great. Those Park Tool workarms bolted to the inside of sprinter back doors was the inspiration for this.
