first post so sorry here. I was doing something funky (wrong) and jumped the bottom and right legs of my headlight relay together. (if you are standing on the drivers side looking at the relay box) this seems to have shorted something out. i can jump the top leg and left leg together and make my headlights come on, but i am unable to switch my headlights on and off like normal. i replaced the relay and the issue still persists. i know what i did wrong but i do not know what else is ran in conjunction with this relay that i could have blown. again, i can jump the relay out and everything comes on and there is no blown fuses. HELP PLEASE!?

Is there anything else not working? Do your turn signals and high beams work when you toggle them on the switch?

My entire headlight (hi and lo) and subsequently fog light circuit is not able to switch on. Turn signals work, runnin lights won’t come on at just the running light setting but will still come on when headlights are selected even though the headlights don’t come on. I’m wondering if I shorted out the dimmer relay?

The dimmer relay sounds like the issue based on your description. What other relay did you replace?

That is normal if the vehicle is off.

I only replaced the headlight relay, I didn’t know untill now that it was also wired to the dimmer relay

And all the fuses for lights checked good with your DVM?

It looks like you sent 12v to the control side (ground) of the ECU.
That’s not good. Someone like @Dm93 might have an idea of what could have been damaged?
I suppose there’s a small possibility the head light switch is bad, but I doubt it.

If you wanted you might be able to test to see if the ECM is working.
You could probably test this at pin #1 of the relay to see if it’s getting a ground signal.
But I’d feel much better letting one of the other guys that do this daily, tell you the best way to check it.

Hang out a bit, someone smarter than me will drop in soon.

OP, you sent unfused juice to the ECM, so most likely it fried the trace.

Something to add which I know is not good but maybe can tell y’all more info. I am getting like 3 volts on my #1 connection which from my understanding is supposed to be 0v lol. So I’m assuming I’ve fried that input. Is there anything I can do to remedy this without getting a new ecm?

I’m sure you could rig something up like another switch to control the relay. But I wouldn’t recommend it.

What was the original issue that led to you jumping the terminals in the first place?
Was the headlight switch on when you jumped the terminals?

@Dm93 very sad to admit this but I was going to do the fog lights on anytime mod and tried doing it without looking at anything first so of course failed miserably. I know how to do it now and have it done but now have to jumper wire my headlights when I want them on lol. To answer your second question, I had them turned off, jumped them together on the relay and plugged it up, then turned my headlights on

Yea unfortunately you likely fried the driver in the body ECU for the headlight relay if you turned the light switch on with the terminals jumped together.
Not sure what the cost on one is, it is on the back of the interior fuse box you will have to get the part number off it and see.
I'd imagine you could find one in a salvage yard for a reasonable price.

 Yea I would be calling some salvage yards before I paid that much for a new one.
